So how are they going to get 100,000* fans out of the place on the Sunday evening??
Avalon only has a single freeway link back to Melbourne and the nearest public transport is either the Lara or Little River V-Line country train stations. I s'pose they could extend the Werribee electric metro line to Little River and build a spur line to the airport which could be used for other purposes the rest of the year but that would require government money. Getting out of the Airshow is usually a nightmare with a smaller crowd and good traffic management so what's it going to be like with a bigger crowd?? * I posted a similar post in another forum using 50,000 as the crowd figure last night but notice in today's Herald Sun they quote the 2009 Sunday crowd as 105,000. |

Where is the problem with building it, and still running the GP in town? Especially if there is no problem as far as Govt $$$ is concerned (to develop the Airfield site) |

Linfox wont do it without a concrete revenue stream to justify the investment, so without a signed & sealed F1GP deal it aint gunna happen.
Bernie has always stated he could simply put a couple of stuffed kangaroos around Silverstone annd run the race there, hence the need for a street circuit. |

Bernie wanting to run a race at Silverstone? You're having a laugh.
Curiously, he always tells us he wants to run the British GP in France/Russia/India. Methinks geography isn't his strong point. I'm also confused as to why someone should think the GP is a revenue stream, never mind a guaranteed one. Best way of making money out of a F1 race is to ensure someone else gets the contract. |

If they want to find a prime location with value for money, what about my hometown of Roma Queensland? Lots of space, there's a good airport faclity and many people are motorsport mad so there won't be much complaining.

Exactly my point, Linfox (owners of a very large trucking company, PI race track & Avalon Airport among other things) would want the government to have a contract with Bernie which stitches up using the new proposed track at Avalon for a lot of years. |

I think for any event where you are targeting interstate & o/s fans, you need to have pretty quick access from the track to accom., pubs, restaurants, etc. This is something that Albert Park, Adelaide and the Gold Coast are ideal for, not sure that an hour train ride to Avalon (or more to the point an extra hour on the trip home from the track) would do a lot for the event 'experience'. In all other aspects it would be great to have a new track to replace Calder & Sandown for when they inevitably disappear. Could this operate in conjunction with the proposed Pakenham facility if that gets up?
