Rennsport Reunion III

Hi All

I was at Daytona over the weekend, marshalling at this fabulous event run every 3 years by the Porsche Club of America. And the car's it attracts - 17 (yes, SEVENTEEN) 917's!!!!!!!!, 910's, 956/962's - you name it Porsche-wise and it was probably there.

Here's a link to some photo's I have uploaded to the web. Enjoy!!!!! And drool!!!!!!!

Gunnar's G99 apparently caught fire during the event, but was able to be quickly put out.

I was there both Saturday and Sunday and it was an amazing event. For a young person like me, it was truly a rare opportunity to see cars that I had previously only been able to read about, watch videos of, and dream of. The list of Porsche stars was also incredible. Getting to meet the drivers of the era was just as cool as seeing the actual cars. I definetely recomment the event to anyone interested in this form of racing. Thanks for the pics!

Having returned from the ER (short-circuit on the keyboard, apparently droolo was the culprit, hehehehe), I have to say this looks like an event not to be missed! One day, I hope to attend it...one day...

This has got to be my favorite one (take-no-prisoners body lines):

Edit: I apologize for not thanking for the beautiful photographs!

Did anyone there get the lap time of the Penske/Porsche LMP2 car as Im really curious to see what a modern car is capable of at Daytona.

If one looks carefully at the picture posted by FIRE, you will notice that the big white car in the middle of the picture is a 16 cylinder 917 prototype!
I have some close up pictures, but I don't know how to upload.

It wasn't put on soley by the Porsche Club of America. It was really Brian Redman and his son that were the organizers. PCA and PCNA also played a role. I was there Sat and Sun and it was overload the entire time. A 908-3 3 liter almost beat a 917-30 5 liter twin turbo in the race. The 908 spun finally trying to hold the lead.

The 908/3 spun while in 2nd place in the West horseshoe. Phil was quicker in the 908/3 than Jim was in the 917-30, just that Jim had tons more HP...

And what would have happened if they just said 'screw you'? I mean, once the time's set, the time's been set... I fail to see what sort of recourse the Frances could have against Penske, and any negative action against Porsche would hurt themselves more anyway. It's a pity.

The reunion itself looked absolutely unbelievable though (especially the '917 PA', chassis 027, the 16cyl test car) and I would die to see even a quarter of those cars in the flesh. thanks for the awesome pics to supplement those on DSC!

There were both exhibition runs and races.
