Quick question, what size tyres should a LC run? Should the fronts be smaller, ie thinner?

Quick answer: every size that fits on 5.5J x13 rims................Normally LC's use 5.25 x 13 rear and 4.50 x 13 in front some uses 5.25 x 13 in front also.

I've always run 5.25 rear and 4.50 front, 5.25's have been seen on some fronts but I don't think they help much and you need to modify panelwork which isn't strictly speaking legal.

most other GT's I've seen have had 4.50's on the rear . . .a quick easy way of changing your final drive ratio !

I know Joe but my car, as you know is legal according to homologation and AppK even the same as your car so 6 J is not allowed

Just got new rims and tires under the car 5.25 rear 4.50 front and now rebuilding the diff to 4.44

Will meet you some time some place next year during an event. It would be nice to do Spa together with Henrik from Danmark.

all 3 GT's in the Northern hemisphere racing together . . . you couldn't make it up

6" rears are Goodwood rims . . . my little check to see if the scrutes where up to scratch! unfortunately as everyone else uses them it didn't show up!!!

I´m in for the Spa next year, 6 hours in the Cortina GT. It would be the thing to do in 2008.
But 6" rims, that is naughty.
I am very strick with App.K regulation, as you know Joe.
I really don´t care if the original doorlining or seats is there, as pr.Goodwood, but the technicals, must not be questioned.

Isn´t that going over, you should not punish yourself like that, 5½ rims will do, and if we are going to Spa 6 hours, it should be 5½ rims, just for our comfort. Wouldn´t you agree?

Does this mean that you guys use narrower tyres on the front than on the rear? And if so, what (modern) tyre sizes does that translate to?

It would probably work out at 165.70.13 front and 185.70.13 rear see-ing that the Dunlop Historics are an 80 series,this will obviously change the drive ratio.

Thanks, Terence. I'm not too worried about the drive ratio yet, first we need to get some balance in the handling. Different size tyres may help.

Looking in the Dunlop 'Vintage car race tyres' list, I see 4.50 M13 CR65 204 and 5.25 M13 CR65 204. Are these the ones to order?

yes, they are, roughly speaking they're 175/60 or 70 on the front and 185 60 ish on the back, but they roll around and change


I run 175/70 radials on the road cars it looks right and feels right, and toyos at £25 from my freindly local tyre dude is a darn sight cheaper than dunlops !

These were the sizes mentioned in a list sent by the organizers of the Dutch Championship so it must be okay. I don't think we have a choice either.

Last weekend the car had cheapo 175/70 tyres on all wheels for practice and the oversteer was frightening. Felt like the rears had no lateral grip at all. I really hope that Dunlops in different sizes wil make a difference. I dread the thought of going into Eau Rouge in a few weeks time with the car behaving like it did last week.

thats the fun bit ! LSD working ok ?

TB, the profile mentioned was a reference, road car tyres are not racing tyres, and I can't afford Dunlops on the road car . . .

The Dunlops will be a lot better than road tyres,as Zef has given the tyre sizes to run ,you should really enjoy them.Have fun!.

There is a school of thought that says 5-50 L 13s all round is the best tyre to use, particularly if it is wet, but also in the dry. They are a bit taller but not as wide as the 5-25 M and much taller and a bit wider than the 4-50 M. This combination is said to give a better balance but I've not tried it myself. Crucially the overall width is half an inch narrower than the 5-25 M for fitting to the front. I've tried many times to fit the 5-25 M at the front but it's just too wide to fit without bodywork modifications.
