FIM v. AMA

The FIM (Federation International Motorcycle) is trying to oust the AMA (American Motorcycle Association). This is stems from offroad motorcycle racing. The EA Supercross Series, which is owned by Clear Channel Communications, is administered by the AMA in the United States and is very popular with high purses, good television coverage and stardom for the top riders. Even the best European riders come to the US to race because they know they face the best Supercross riders in the World and can make a better living at it here. Apparently the FIM does not appreciate this and is looking to force the AMA to adopt the new rules packages they imposed in Europe. Instead of the AMA just imposing arbitrary rules changes they involve the manufacturers in the process and ask for their blessing. After all the Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki teams are what draw the crowds. The FIM Offroad Championship has not been drawing crowds and is being subsidized by Superbike raicng to keep it afloat.

Looks like the same thing happened whent he FIA took over control of the DTM (German Touring) and systematically destroyed it to keep it behind F1 in popularity.
