mazda1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Jean Alesi

Who is Jean Alesi some might ask? Shame on them. Jean Alesi is one of the most famous drivers in the world. He is a real hero for all Tifosi. We can't forget he's struggle at Ferrari year after year, and he's one win at Montreal (I attended that year and jump the fence with everybody else, champange hit my face at the podium and everything!!!). He is coming to sport car racing this year. The most famous star to join endurance racing since Montoya at Daytona. The chances of him beeing in a F430 GTC at Sebring are big and it will bost attendance believe it or not. With the grid looking weak, we have something to look forward to! Especially When the battle in GT2 is so strong. Jean, bring it on!!!

And not is first venture into a ferrari sports car either. He drove Jean Sage's F40 in the USA during 1989, the same year he drove a 962 at Le Mans.

Alesi certainly not foreign to GT racing... With so little major entrants in the GT-category for the ALMS this season, Alesi is a great draw card... Hopefully a successful competitor behind the wheel as well.

as far as im aware Alesi is doing the LMS not Sebring, if AF Corse do Sebring it will be Perez Companc and Russo in the Munchi's F430 again, not one of AF Corse's own cars.

Yeah , great to see Alesi returning to sportscars . I believe he will drive the enduros for Risi in the F430 ? Hope to see him at Le Mans again .

He drove at my first Le Mans for Schuppan in a 962C in 1989 , the Takefuji car but it burst into flames on the run from Mulsanne corner to Indianapolis from a fractured oil return line , which had something to do with Brilliant Bob Wollek shunting the car , iirc .

From what I could gather in the Autosport article when the story broke, Jean definitely wants to be racing at Le Mans this year. And he wanted to draw Rossi in as well after his performance at Vallelunga, but that was a no-no due to MotoGP scheduling.

If he does Sebring as well, it will be a very welcome addition.

Oh, and hello everyone.

EDIT: Also, how did Bob Wollek have anything to do with Alesi's car catching fire at Le Mans in '89?

If I remember correctly , Wollek shunted the Schuppan car from behind in a very uncharacteristic move from him , and that shunt had something to do with the fire later on , an oil return line I think it was .

I think that the GT2 class is very exciting and enticing at Sebring this year.

Having 6 all-pro works cars and an all-pro car of unknown 'works' status (ESM) is hardly a weak field, I agree!

Official reason for retirment was turbo fire and no liability attributed to BW

That may be so, but Wollek definitely apologised to the team for contact with their 962 - it's mentioned by one of the 962 drivers on the Le Mans video that year.
