Vans

Does any mad person out there run a series for panel vans or car derived vans?

Wasn't there a series in the Eighties for Ford P100 pickups?

Also, a VW Caddy van runs in the VW Cup.

Hide boy hide.... and you best stay hidden!

I tried to enter a ciroen Relay in a sprint and got laughed at and turned down.

So... I bought a vee.

On a serious point can you imagine a grid of transits at brands? Mega!

Obviously they'd need a few pallets in the back for racing, and a copy of the Sun on the dashboard.

I'll take the 160bhp VW LT35... we've got two on order at work. The 109bhp version does 110mph... can't wait to see how the bigger model goes

Between Royston and Cambridge. Work in Stevenage, so have the delight of queueing through Baldock twice daily.

If we are getting really silly then how about a series for 4*4's?

Bonus points will be issued for petrol consumption, the smallest number of occupants per number of seats, inconsiderate driving/parking (ideal for people looking to move on from one make saloon cars!), drivers hairstyles/makeup (preferably done whilst driving), number of cup holders that you aren't legally allowed to use, time spent during race on mobile, time spent sitting in the outside lane despite all other lanes being clear etc.

There would of course have to be a stipulation that they don't have to race if there any chance of it being the slightest bit muddy or even damp.

The class structure could be based on just how pointless they are for the use they are put to.

PS I am probably going to buy a petrol 3.2 litre 14MPG Frontera for towing the race car, when is the first race!!!!

To go back to the original question, yes, there used to be a series for the P100 pickup trucks as there was a series for pickups run within the Eurocar package not so many years ago.

would the vans have to be white for performance purposes, have the nearside mirror folded in and not be washed since the previous meeting?

Denis,

Noooo not a Frontera... you want a nice Iveco Turbo Daily Van, in fact, just like mine... (which will be for sale in the new year).

And I will be entering the BRSCC Super Motorway Van Championship using a UVModular bodied Merc Sprinter Ambulance. They weigh 4 tonnes, and still pull 100!! Avoid 4x4 versions like plaque, they eat transfer boxes, brakes, engines, clutches, and anything remotely resembling anything that revolves.

What we should do is resurrect the Car & Caravan championship, then amalgamate it with the BARC Modified Productions Abrahams A1M1 Tank Championship (live ammunition provided). The opening round will be held on the A11 between Barton Mills and Thetford.

I also recall tales of a track day at Oulton Park where a billy turned up with his works transit, compete with slabs in the back!

Rob.

PS: Denis, don't be late on Saturday morning! See you at the Travel Lodge near Andover?
