I'll be good to see some of the high quality GT2 teams finally move up a class or two.

I guess a (semi) factory backed Porsche GT2 deal was just to good to through away in the 'hope' they could make an impact with a customer Lola, Courage etc.

Lmp1

Is there any truth that Porsche will eventully develop this with turbos for LMP1 or is it just wishful thinking on my part to see them in the top class again. Surley with Honda and Peugeot coming back they would relish the challenge.

It has been suggested that Porsche will indeed move to LMP1 next year. There is no suggestion that they will just put turbos on this car though, and I would expect them to evaluate a number of situations to determine what they think is the best option for them. I wouldn't doubt that they've had that V10 on the dyno some recently.

As far as American Le Mans Sereies teams.....

My expectation would be Flying Lizards and Petersen/White Lightning would be moving up.

I'm not sure who these LMS teams would be though.

Here is the original English press release.

http://www.motorsport.com/news/artic...FS=ALMS-LEMANS

The lack of mention of a factory backed program for 2007 in this piece seems to strengthen a rumor I hear that Porsche may not return as a factory effort in 2007. Apparently, the LMP2 program is bleeding more PCNA cash than envisioned.

Porsche never intended to compete as a factory team in LMP2, in 2007.

But Penske said at Sebring they see the assocition with Porsche as a multi year, long term program., suggesting P1 eventually.

Wonder how many RS P2's will eventually be sold, it could quite possibly be anything upto 20 if theres a year on year production run, with the ALMS, LMS an JLMS markets.

I know the Spyder's a handy piece of kit, but more than a million euros!!

You could buy four Radical SR9's for that sort of money couldn't you? Add to that the excitement of taking on the mighty Porsche RS Spyders. I know exactly where I'd spend my euros..........

I'd be spending it on a Radical for that money but , I reckon overall the RS Spyder will be the better LMP2 car , not trying to take anything away from Radical or anybody else . Cuz its hard to beat the master !!!

I calculated this in the last year. In todays prices the latest customer 962 costs around 700.000 EURO (i calculated with the german inflation rate).

I guess one of the biggest differances with buying a Porsche is . At every race they have a product support truck filled with parts and a lot of techs on hand to help customers with various issues .

Did you ever see a Saleen support truck , or a Courage support truck or an AER support truck at a race meeting ? Granted , there may be support staff , but not on the same level as Porsche .

There was many complaints about product support from Courage last year , or lack off !

Porsche is a car you buy and sit in it and drive as opposed to having to sort out all your own little problems ..... all in all , its a complete package .

Thats the differance ..... imo .

Good use of German inflation!
I guess the price increase of a customer Porsche prototype comes from the increase in sophistication. And maybe a little in reduced volumes.
It is a little disapointing that it is 40% more then (assuming all these figures are on the mark*). However if they get many takers then the price is right.

*old German currency pun

F1 GTR's were sold at £1m apiece, with a dozen + sold.

For a complete package, with Porsche support and development, and a likely decent sell on price, £600-£700k is reasonable.

I suspect the future resale value of the Porsche will be higher than most of the others.
You can offset the higher purchase price against a better resale value.

I think I read somewhere (Infoscourse probably, but I can't find it back)) that Courage had sent a truck full of spare part for their customers during the Istanbul meeting
