888 livery - the Pig Racer (Merged x1)

it was nice when it first came out but like GRM it's boring now & the way the back end is aranged with the line unter the tailight and the line that come up the side not meeting makes it look out of whack. good sponsership oppertunity with the Hogsbreath but if it's to spite Ford it's abit petty.

http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...001023,00.html

BTW as a Holden fan i hope it runs like a pig to.

It may be the same, still looks good apart from that alignment issue.

The new badge.

I think you'll find the whole field has utilized the same lines for there liveries. Everything on that angle from the top of the boot to the bottom of the front door.
Since they pulled the number off the doors the creativity has gone out the door.

But then again, like GRM's scheme, it it works stick with it.

I reckon the DJR cars should be known as the DJR 320.

To be honest, them replacing the Ford logo with that pig head is a bit juvenile. I know it's a sponsor of theirs, but the car is still a Ford. Nearly zero teams in NASCAR Sprint Cup have factory sponsorship, yet they still carry the decals of the "manufacture."

Poor form by 888, imo.

They would need to be DJR 600+ (as the 320 referred to kW output)

Its a paint job. That is all. Time for some perspective people.

There is no need to change it every year like many teams feel they need to. Eg. HRT

The car looks good, represents its sponsors and if it wins no one will care what paint it has.

True, but the XR8 only has 290kw (388hp) of power and the GT only has 315kw (422hp) which is well short of a V8 supercar.

You’ve really got to wonder, is it wise of Mr Dane to attempt to disassociate himself with Ford completely?

Alienating the fans that buy your team’s merchandise isn’t a very good idea for starters. If he really thinks the 888 brand has got more of a following than the Ford brand when it comes to things like selling caps he’s delusional.

Meanwhile, we’ll wait and see what VESA have to say about not presenting the car with its correct badge in place. If Dane continues with this ‘888 Supercar’ charade, then he’s going to need to build a few thousand road cars and homologate the damn things as such...

Thats really petty for 888 to try remove any reference to it being a Ford.
There are plenty of other teams out there not getting Ford money and they still call and badge their cars as a Ford.

Do they really think that by them not refering to them as Ford's that the whole world won't either? It's Ford. Doesn't matter if they get money from Ford or not. Its still a Ford.

Pathetic really.

Sponsorship dollars are what runs a team so you're going to want to achieve maximum exposure for them. Ford don't sponsor 888 so they don't get a presence on the car.

It's simple economics at the end of the days people and if people want to make a mountain out of a molehill then that's their decision.

Car looks great by the way. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

Wouldn't people who buy 888/Vodafone/Whincup/Lowndes caps be 888/Vodafone/Whincup/Lowndes fans? If they wanted to buy a Ford cap, wouldn't they just buy a Ford cap?

I know Betta Electrical never built race cars, but I can't help but notice that the team stopped putting Betta Electrical stickers when the money dried up... spoiled sports!

Not if your buying said cap to support a Ford V8supercar team.......

Exactly, and from what I've seen in the past, the vast majority support a manufacturer first, team second.

Many of those who were buying 888 caps in 2008 were the ones buying SBR caps in 2004, and DJR caps in 2001, etc, because they were the 'gun' Ford teams in those years.

Now, Cochrane and co have been telling us in the last 12 months that this is changing, and the fan bases will soon be separated on a team vs team basis, rather than strictly red and blue.

Who knows, 888 may be looked upon in the future as the team that really pioneered that sort of fan loyalty, but I still think it's a very bold move to act in the way that Mr Dane has towards Ford... considering the way the sport is in Australia.
