Shimoda just slid off into a tyre barrier (wet conditions) and they didn't turn out for the second session.

India Pakistan
I don't think Khan is still injured. I'm hearing of real problems within the team and it is likely you won't see them again. India missing is a bit of a surprise - not even a news release - weird!

Parente (Portugal) didn't set a time in the first session but came back and were third quickest in the second session - don't know why that was

It was wet yesterday - first rain since October - and the team decided not to risk the car in the first session. I'd guess that spares are still an issue, even with only 22 cars on the track.

Ah - there were a few spinners in the conditions but Japan were the only team that managed to hit anything anyway

Some interesting changes for session 3 today. Salvador Duran back in the Team Mexico car after all and Christian Jones in for Team Australia - cue torrent of abuse from our friends in Oz!
It was dry and South Africa was fastest. Qualifying later. I have a sneaking feeling that the trio of South Africa, Canada and New Zealand could spring another surprise. |

Wouldn't go for Canada....but SA and NZ could be ones to watch.
See Premat made it in time from the GP2 test |

Sensational qualifying session. South Africa look to be on a roll - Premat must have had a touch of jet lag - but an impressive performance, too, from Bryan Herta, 5th for Team USA. Wonder how he'll go at Laguna Seca...

I'm dissapointed with Canada being down in 19th-I had hoped that Carpentier would do even better than McIntosh but that waas not an impressive showing. Am also dissapointed with team GB down in 15th. There is really no excuse for that-hope they do better tomorrow! Good to see South Africa up there on pole-Simpson's most impressive performance yet! Italy, USA & the Czech Republic were good as well! Should be an interesting race!

Bit disappointed with Canada and GB, but as we've seen before it's no great handicap starting from the back to come through and win! Good luck to Simpson tomorrow and hope he doesn't get swamped by the DAMS duo...

Perhaps Alan Jones should drive the thing himself, he would perhaps still be quicker than Jones Jnr...Quicker only than Ma Qinghua - what a joke.
I do hope Australia sort themselves out, I would love to see NZ, GB and Australia on the podium together but that does not look too likely! |

I'm totally hacked off after GB's qualifying - how can a team that gets pole in the last race become so hugely off the pace?!

Team GBR must be suffering from some serious gremilns to be so far off the pace. We just have to hope that Robbie can do some impressive overtaking to get to the front, at least that should be good entertainment!
But im rooting for RSA in the sprint-i'd love to see Simpson beat the DAMS cars! woo-yeah! |
