The best shows in ALMS was when Peugeot was there to, in 2009 and 2010, not 2007 or 2008.
Wrong on many accounts: the ACO created LMP675 AND LMP2, not IMSA. They're the only cars that beat Audi consistently strictly using ACO rules, and the ACO was reigning in LMP2 from 2006/2007 IIRC. Porsche won 8 races in 2007; Audi 4. 2008 saw 7 Audi wins and 4 LMP2 wins.

The only other cars that seriously challenged Audi after 2001 were Pescarolo when the rules gave them a huge edge, Intersport when the ALMS adjustments were really akin to a freakshow, Peugeot because they used the same diesel rules and Toyota because of their superior hybrid system.

So, after all that we have:

Audi: 4.0l, V6, turbo diesel
Toyota: 3.7l, V8, NA petrol
Porsche: 2.0l, V4, turbo petrol
Rebellion: 3.4l, V8, NA petrol
Lotus: ?.?l, V6, turbo petrol

Great variety there, now we just need a few more cars...

Perhaps we'll be seeing a Nissan 3.0L Twin-Turbo V6 (two ZEOD RC engines put together) and some sort of Ferrari Turbo-V6 in the near-future

Nor renault(nissan). Good thing the wec isnt f1! No 'spec' engine, not set in stone for the entire season in terms of upgrades.

Agreed. Then again, it seems that it needs more variety that's beyond reciprocating engines.

Did any more details about the AER in the back of the Lotus leak out over the COTA weekend? Engine capacity, is it related to any other AER motors, etc?
It seems it ran relaibly with decent power.

Had the chance to hear the Porsche engine for the first time. Not very loud or badass sounding IMO. Only a hair noisier than Audi. Only Toyota and Rebellion prototypes sound like a proper race car. In fact, they overdo it at Rebellion. The Rebellion R car was probably the loudest prototype at COTA. So loud, it can get irritating a bit without ear plugs.

The team has been so tight lipped with information I'm not waiting to hear anything from them. Although we might get a press release from AER on the topic.

In an unrelated item, the S35 pre-race notebook mentioned that Judd is still working on their LMP1 engine.

For 2017 the series organizers have to get their act together, and put together formula that will work across WEC, ELMS, TUSC, that will allow for manufacturers to showcase their technologies, without completely trouncing the privateers. The privateers must have a chance at competing for overall victories, or at least make it darned closed that an upset is possible once in a while. I'm not sure what the exact solution is, but I do know that we need reasonably priced chassis, with manufacturer brands in the top categories to maximize their popularity. No disrespect to Oak, Zytek, Lola, Riley etc... but those chassis aren't what draws fans to track. Audi, Toyota, Porsche, Peugeot, Acura... those are what people want to see. We need multiple series with the same basic specs for the top class, so that there is a business model that works for engine manufacturers and chassis builders alike. Without a larger market, there is really no future in the current top class, except for relying strictly on manufacturer participation.
I applaud your sentiments, but really cannot not see this ever happening.

There are simply too many self interests, on both sides of the water to allow it to happen as you lay it out.

The only times this was viable..........back in the old Group C days. Sadly they are not coming back any time soon.....

Yes as apparently that Fukushima airport is close to the YGK facilities.

No problem, since Fukushima (the town) is 60km away from the nuclear power station.

I've nodded off at Arnage on Sunday morning - at the closest possible point to the cars on the circuit. If you're tired enough you can sleep through anything.

Completely dispute that the Rebellion (or anything on the current grid) is too loud though.

I've slept through the Panoz GTR-1's running nose-to-tail thundering down the Mulsanne straight for hours in the early morning of 1998*, I wouldn't even notice the Rebellions!

If you're looking to sports cars for a noise fix then you are looking in the wrong place. There have always been much louder forms of racing.

With some of the sports cars I've seen race, any cars which are louder wouldn't be healthy for human ears.

I know the Audis are quiet but some sportscars which have raced very recently must be right up there on the noise stakes. Unless we're counting drag racing?

We are. Or least I was. After experiencing certain things I just can't consider sports car racing to be loud or violent or the like. Irritating? Sure. Fatiguing over a long duration? Without question. A gaggle of current 911s isn't what I would consider pleasing. But not super loud either. That's okay. I love engines and all of their noises and smells and other vibrations. I also love good sounds and not just noise for noise sake like many seem to. I have never understood this insistence that a race car has to be loud. I'll take a pleasing sound over pure noise anytime. I remember falling in love with the Audi R8s in the closing hours of Petit LeMans because I was tired and fatigued and they didn't add to that and I was appreciative. Plus they sounded like jets and I thought that was pretty rad.

Post Script. Your writings in the F1 crossroads thread elsewhere in these forums were well executed and spot on.
