Another case of a lot of us jumping in without finding out the real facts.

SS stumbles another potential issue - if it's dry in qualifying but wet in the race, STR would have an unexpected advantage over their anticipated pace, so would be able to take a result better than they've been rationed to get.

It's not as bad as that. One of these should do it! You could well become exactly right as the weekend progresses.

Kimi has to get a 10-place penalty at some point.

I'm sure the engine failed, causing the rear suspension to fail

But will they use it (starting from the back of the grid) as an excuse for a 'free' engine change?

I guess they'll keep it, there's no evidence that a new engine woul last for the 20 minutes this one did. But yeah, it must have been a problem with the engine, maybe it just fell on the suspension or got unscrewed and went backwards relatively to the car while Kimi was trying to brake. Funny it happened to Kimi again - never JPM.

I don't think so. There wasn't a hint of smoke. I'd say a rear wing failure or a rear suspension failure; my guess would be the latter.

Oh... Has McLaren made any statements yet? The Speed guys touched on the point that the flaw may have been common to both cars, putting JPM in a vulnerable situation this morning.

Good point. If it was a structural failure JPM would have been a bit jittery to say the least.

Although on RENTV it was a bit late coming to the accident I inititially thought "rear wing" but then I saw the floppy wheel so I guess it was suspension.

What has haapened to Macaroon?
