2009 Fuji & Shanghai races
Just wondered what people thoughts were on the two fly away races planned for 2009?
Will they actually happen or be cancelled late in the day? Will they be supported by both LMSTeams and ALMS? How will the laptimes compare to F1 at those tracks? Anyone have any idea what it would likely costs a Team to do the races, probably somewhat relevant under todays economic climate. |

During the ALMS state of the series address at Petit, there was mention of travel packages available on a 1st come 1st serve basis for ALMS teams, so maybe there would be interest if somebody else is paying!

Hmm, maybe somebody should merge these things.
ACO taking the reins of the JLMC Asian Le Mans series? L.P. |

Whichever way you look at it, it's going to be a costly affair and most of the regular ALMS teams don't appear to use pit equipment etc, which is geared to fly away races. Bottom line I believe..............if a team wants to go, they'd better have the funds to pay their own way. |

Yeah, I'd like to be hopeful, but I'm not placing any bets on who would go.
As for lap times, I'd guess P1s will set pole in the 1:47s at Shanghai, and perhaps the 1:28s or so for Fuji. I suspect the LMP1s will be closer to F1 times at Fuji than at Shanghai given the ~1500m straight and tight final sector at Fuji (where you're only going to make so much downforce in all those slow corners). |

Maybe this is timed with the launch of the new Toyota P1 and therefore there will be plenty of money available for promotion etc

These races look to be aimed at manufacturers but do the two series have enough manufacturer interest for this to be worthwhile? |

Audi is very interested to race in Shanghai. They will support it, but I don't suppose they will pay for Peugeot's expenses.
