Red should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
In F1? 1975, in Holland. He won in 1970, I believe, at Rouen and Zolder, but I think he was in F3 then.

I can confirm Red's post sbout Rouen & Zolder F3 races - these were James' first international wins in F3.

However, his (and Hesketh's) first F1 win was actually the non-championship 1974 International Trophy at Silverstone: the 1975 Dutch GP was his first Championship win.

Yep, International Trophy 1974 Silverstone.

He burned his clutch on the grid and went from second to 14th (ish). By lap twenty he was on the tail of Peterson's Lotus '76 but the Swede had tyre probs. His left rear was blistering and he couldn't keep Hunt, in the Postlethwaite designed Hesketh, back.

Hunt took the lead through Woodcote which at that time was a blindingly fast right hander, and never looked back.

Those were the days.
