I think it belonged to Dave Thomas and he once ran it in Thundersaloons.

Thanks Peter, wasn't the one I was thinking of but I recall Dave running it now, yes.

For me the Minis, Anglias, Imps and Escorts are really what this series is all about. Cosworth Sierras, MGBs etc. don't really fit for me. However if it gets the cars out then fair play.

But the series is for Special Saloons, Thundersaloons and Modsports cars so all are welcome. The series has just adopted the Special Saloons moniker for simplicity.

ag shrigley imp should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Some interesting comments on here with regards the type of race trim cars that are available for the series.

I believe that the series should be based around the idea that we can get the classic spaceframe/special saloons out racing. For me I dont feel that the newer type later special saloons should be able to race at this point. I dont see the point in creating a series where these later type saloons are able to race and thrash the opposition. It doesnt make sense. Im sure there must be other championships where they can already compete.

When you look back at the racing we are trying to recreate, the minis and the imps were very dominant, with the bigger cars having plenty power but not as nimble. However with decent suspension and other race components now available for these more powerfull cars. These powerfull race cars are not just using outright horsepower. they are a complete package. I dont find this a problem as its only sensible that these older cars have upgrades.

I feel we have to keep attracting both bigger and smaller cars, However i have spoken with the smaller capacity car drivers and many dont feel they are able to run there cars as its just not worth it and the racing just isnt going to be close enough for them and enjoyable

I know we are not racing to be mega competitive and we arent winning any medals but i do believe we should have a championship which could be open , interesting and can bring these cars back to the many new and old folllowers of the special saloons.

Martin B should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
We ran the Spaceframe Imp (1040cc) at Castle Combe last Monday (as a bit of practice for July ) in the Open Gt race along with the Jades, Radicals and Nemesis cars which were in class A. We were in class B with a BMW M3, 4 1/2 litre Mk1 Escort, MR2 turbo, Supercharged Exige and a 2.7 litre turbo Marlin. We finished 3rd in class B beating the MR2 (spun off), BMW M3 and Escort so don't be affraid of the bigger cars, even the Jades and Radicals were fine when lapping us so it really isn't a problem! If no one gets out and races there won't be a race and you can still have a hell of a battle in your class even if you aren't dicing for the outright lead.

Just get out there and do it!

thats right Martin and im hoping your post will give some of the smaller race car owners the positive thoughts to come out and race.

You must also remember you are using someone elses car though and many of the owners of these cars have had them many years and never thought they would race.

When the HTS website was formed we had over 80 members with around 1000cc cars. Around 23 cars were ready to race and eligible for the new cscc series. Out of that 23 theres only myself and the other Spaceframe imp of stuarts racing in this series.

I know things are tough financially but i would have thought that at least a decent proportion of these cars would have wanted to compete.

Hopefully they will

I am taking it easy, honest! The thing is the car needs to be a bit more settled under braking and I also need to establish how fast it can enter the corners, with my car I can go in too fast and still be able to recover it ok and have the confidence that I can recover it, I am not sure yet with the Imp so corner entry speed is a little slower than it ought to be. The few changes you have on the list will help but also as always, time in the seat will make the difference.
