Indycar/CART chassis history
Trying to locate the racing history of a March 85C, the pole sitter at the Indy 500 in 1985 with Buick power with Pancho Carter at the wheel.
Now in Australia with Cosworth power, I would like to put together some details but keep drawing a blank, any help much appreciated. |

The only help I can offer is pics of the car. At the moment this is the only one I've scanned and uploaded to flickr. I have plenty more as I was providing images to Galles at Indy that year. Let me know if you want to see more.

Thanks Marc. I see you've tagged the photo as a Lola, I've got work to do. I'm told the car here is a March, I'd better check.

serious brain fart
Just noticed that indeed I had it as a Lola in the description. It is indeed a March 85C.
I have no idea why I typed Lola in the description box. Sorry for the confusion. ps You might want to change your thread title to read something about Pancho's 85C. You'll probably get more people to look at it that way. |

I'm not sure how many chassis Galles Racing used in 1985, but the Cosworth-engine is period correct, as the team only ran Buick power at Indy, for the rest of the year the car had a Cosworth engine.
Carter drove the car on the ovals, Roberto Moreno drove it on the road coarses. I've got a copy of most of the '85 CART races if your interested in detailed results the entry had over the season Not sure the car had much of a race history after 1985. For the 1986 the CART car design rules changed slightly, and by 1987 the car was in Bob Jane's possesion in his Calder workshop with all the NASCARs. I think this car was also present at Gary Brabham's wedding! I recall a picture, perhaps in an early MRA, of Gary and his new bride sitting on the front wheel.
