If TCR does come to the UK it will probably be a class within Britcar, or be on the same package as GT Cup. I doubt it would get many entries.

Seems a bit of a daft idea to me. Surely if you don't have the budget to race in BTCC then just go in to the Clios??? A rival touring car championship with such similar (I know they're different technically, but on the face of it are 2l turbo touring cars) rules would be a complete disaster. Why dilute what is one of the top touring car series in the world? I am a fan of the TCR ruleset but not as a competitor to BTCC. Sure, when NGTC starts to looks unsustainable (not any time soon IMO), then go for it. But while there are 32 car capacity grids, leave it alone! There is no way you will get the reach the BTCC has, the odd team might defect but that's it. Seems to me like it's been dreamt up by people who can't win in the BTCC. I really don't get motorsport at times, people are always looking for new ways to drag it down. It's hard enough making a series as popular as the BTCC as it is, why can't everyone just work together for the good of the sport.

What about it offered something different? Say, 1 hour races with a pit stop for 2 drivers.

Probably cheaper than GT Cup and British GT, and this sort of format has proven popular, with the ability to share costs or race with your "driver coach". The cars could also be used in Britcar. Have a class for the Gen 2 Seat Leon SuperCopas which are very popular, and which has a similar tech philosophy to TCR, and it could work. So, not a rival to BTCC but "TCR Cup" could have a future.

Or failing that; something akin to the format used in the TCR Benelux series.

Just remember there have been other attempts to rival the BTCC, notably Andy Rouse's SCV8 and Jonathan Palmer's T1. Neither of them got off the ground, so it's unlikely this one would succeed either

Maybe, but I think the significant difference between those ideas and this is that the concept already exists and has both international and manufacturer support for a common set of regs. A big advantage as the development work has already been done in other markets.

To some extent, TCR doesn't need the UK.

The TCR Europe Trophy will be awarded in a one-off event, 28-29 October in Adria.

Seems like the old FIA Touring Car World Cup, hope for a good number of drivers involved

Adria is not the best place for a European finals race.

Mugello or Monza are less tight.

They are also evaluating different race formats for the trophy, including possibly qualifying races and longer races. Shouldn't be too much of a problem to whittle down the field to a number suitable for the circuit.

James Nash is working on a deal to return. It's between two teams and should be done within the next couple of days.
