40 years of FF1600

I, for one, think it is a great shame that there is apparently now no 40 year anniversary FF1600 meeting as it would surely be a great success if it was marketed.

You would think such a milestone would be worth marking.

I quite agree - but sadly I'm not at all surprised that it hasn't happened.

I thought it was at Snett this weekend, but now it seems I must have imagined it.

With my pedantic head on :
1967-2007 is 41 years inclusive, so the 40th celebration should have been held in July last year.

I'll sort of hold my hands up here, as I did try to get something going for a joint Champion of Oulton 25th and FF1600 40th "event" this year, but received very little competitor [old and new] feedback, so gave up on it.

Sad I know, but there isn't anyway near the amount of interest out there that "us enthusiasts" like to imagine there is. Let's face it the majority of current NW drivers don't even know the names of who is doing MS in 2007 and vice versa.
What chance have we got that they would remember Ray Allen, Tim Schenken, Rad Dougall, Ken Bailey, Ted Whitbourn, Geoff Lees, David Kennedy, Derek Lawrence and the like.
I think the last F1 driver to do any Kent racing was Anthony Davidson and they probably haven't heard of him either.

Is it true that the older and more 'pedantic' you get the less sleep you need? or is it that the sleep just comes upon you at odd times of the day?

Maybe the Festival could be the event to celebrate it this year?

Just had a phone call from Motorsport News wanting me to advertise in a 40th Anniversary Supplement they are putting out before the Festival. At least they're are thinking of doing something.

And very good it is too. Shame the club couldn't be bothered to recognise 40 years in the summer.

The gauntlet was picked up here in the U.S. southwest.
On Oct. 4 thru the 6th 41 FF cars entered the Vintage races at Hallett Racing Circuit in Oklahoma. At the end of four days of hard racing 26 survived to make the final race on Sunday.
Racing was wheel to wheel and competition was serious but no accidents made for a wonderful event. 5 Lotus 61's, 3 type 51's, a 23B, and three 7's were fielded along with a smattering of Lola's, Merlins, and other marques.
I believe a good time was had by all, especially this rookie driver.
I have a group photo of the contestants and their cars but have no way of posting it to this page.
Just wanted to let you know FF is alive and well over on this side of the pond.

Maybe a photo call at the WHT then to celebrate it? James, why not invite all the past greats from Ray Allen onwards ( most BRDC members anyway?) and line up all of the cars in a mass grid for that shot from the footbridge?

I got a jolly day at Silverstone a couple of years ago and got to have a play with an Elise on the South Circuit. Ray was out with me. What a TOP BLOKE.
