Highlights and Lowlights of 2005

Well another year is nearly over and its time to look back on the year. So what has been everyones highlights and lowlights of the year. To kick things off here are mine:-

Highlights

Le Mans - enough said really
BTCC Knockhill - what a fantastic place can't wait to go back next year
Silverstone Historic Festival - A great meeting with some fantastic cars on show
Roger Albert Clark Rally - Fantastic, this event is what Rally GB should be.
BTCC Brands Hatch (October) - A great way to finish the track season
MGCC Oulton Park - A good day out and some good racing.

Lowlights

LMES Silverstone - god it was wet
BTCC Knockhill - I thought Silverstone was wet....
North Humberside Stages - Why did I bother going, it was rubbish, people where just not trying
BRSCC Spring Festival Oulton Park - Good meeting, but got sunbrunt

Gaz should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Highlights:

A1 GP Brands - Wow, what a spectacle
FIA GT, Silverstone - Superb racing, love those Astons
LMES, Silverstone - Stupidly wet but a great race all the same
Goodwood Festival Of Speed- First visit, will be back again, loved it!
Renault World Series, Donington - Loved the sounds of those cars and the support package was excellent as well.

Lowlights:

British F3 meetings - Crap season, driver talent questionable, title battle non-existent, meetings badly supported and organised. Didn't even bother with the Silverstone finale!

British GP - Enjoyed it recent seasons but this year the race was poor, the only memorable thing about the weekend was that journalist running around the circuit ball naked, says it all really!

Highlights:

MG car Club at Mallory Park on 28th August (my first ever visit to Mallory - I plan on returning) followed by a BARC classic car club meeting at Donington on the 29th. What better way is here to spend a sunny Bank Holiday weekend?
FIA GTs & LMES at Silverstone for exactly the same reasons as given by Gaz above.
The season ending Britcar meeting at Brands - qualifying with frost on the track, but great racing all day.
Too many others to list, it was a good year with the exceptions below.

Lowlights:

Again I have to agree with Gaz about the F3 & GT meetings. Went to Thruxton only to find they'd messed with the timetable so a full grid of Minis was on before the Church break (so I missed them) and an 8 car FFord race was on after the Church Break. Then at Silverstone (as LMES support) the Sunday support races were FFord and FPA. If they want people to attend, for goodness sake let's have some variety from single seaters.
Not being able to get to Lydden Hill this year.
Realising how much I've spent on petrol gatting to races this year!.
Seeing how much MSV have raised their season ticket prices to.

Highs

The Silverstone Classic meeting, the best meeting I've attended in years.
Oulton Park Gold Cup event. Again we camped at the track and had a great time.
The Sunday of the FoS at Goodwood. After being trampled on the Friday having grandstand tickets meant we had a great view and plenty of space to take photographs
FIA GT race at Silverstone.
First time visits to Shelsley Walsh and Lydden Hill, both very friendly and a great day out.

Lows.

The grandstand farce during the LMES race at Silverstone. ( and the weather that day ).
The Goodwood Revival.
Dr J. Palmer for deciding my young lad is an adult.
The lack of cars and excitement at the BTCC meetings.
The few Castle Combe morons and North Wiltshire DC planners.
