"In the 17 on the other hand, they are paying attention"

Bit of a harsh comment against the #19 there. It wasn't like they weren't paying attention - they were just driving faster. That's what it takes to win this race now days.

Or they have a car that has broken at the previous short races and weren't going to just run the team cars at the limit while in a strong position. Don't think it was meant as a dig at the #18 drivers (probably doing what they were told, run a cracking pace and break the Audis chasing which they did) but he is someone who is very close to the team and may know what they were playing at. Le Mans has always been about team games.

Not sure its being harsh. If you bang a car over the kerbs for 24 hours, its a reasonable assumption that you may have damage to it...

Its supposed to be WEC not WRC after all...

The #19 played hare big time.. and it worked. Job done!

It was not that clear on the first stints, when the #19 was sixth until Duval made contact with the barrier.

More than one race plan?? that is crazy talk

When they got bunched up with that S/C the #18 found another gear over the rest of the field

Audi pushed harder... Porsche played very good strategy with good choices to make tires last during the night with 4 stints, played well and Audi played worst since they lost time during the night ( didn't see if they had 5 stints with Lotterer or not)... last i saw of night #19 and #7 and #9 were inside 1:30s or so, in middle of night, hardly a difference for not pushing... but then the LM ghost this time caught Audi, but even then Audi didn't stop pushing (happy hour time when Lotterer pulverized again (1th was #9 Albuquerque beginning of night) the race lap record)...

So if all stayed out of trouble, all bets would be off, that 's exactly the situation where you have to push.... specially when you know the best characteristic of your opponent is reliability(diesel engine helps a lot).

A quote from Webbers old man on the sunday morning kinda supports that

http://www.24h-lemans.com/en/news/al...746_21095.html
They all went flat out since the beginning, even Toyota... the differences in stints are mostly due to tires, and sometimes fuel strategies (different engine mapping for 1 more lap or less time in pits)... but under the possibilities of the car is flat out all the time, specially at front of the race... even if you are most delayed is flat out,,, in Spa was the same (#17 never quitted).

This is new fashion endurance racing, machines have to last flatting out (is all computer managed this days, engine and hybrid, so all the driver has to do is pedal to the metal without being crazy on unnecessary risks) ... or else ! lol

Premature? Absolutely not! You can't wait until all of the details are ironed out before you start work. And starting now isn't the same as setting design decisions in stone now. Same goes for 2017.

I wonder if we will get an after-the-fact release from Porsche about winning technologies like Audi has been fond of in the past????

They have been very quiet about their engine. I have to wonder what changes hide "under the hood" they clearly made a change to two exhausts. But why? Did their MGU-H change from last years. how much more efficient is this thing over last years? I have to wonder how much that other hybrid system has to do with h their ability to get to 8MG?

I read somewhere that the change to 2 exhausts was that it was better for aero.

And reduction of exhaust backpressure. The car was overweight last year and that's why they probably went with a single exhaust as it saves a bit of weight.

Utterly ruined by the bizarre choice of voiceover if you ask me.

How many engineers works in the Porsche aero-department ?

Because Bonanomi said to an italian newspaper before the race that Audi had more than doubled (10) the 3-4 aero-specialists that worked 2 years ago

I thought the exact same thing. It sounds like a German man with a French accent that grew up in the south of the US trying to speak English. Bizarre. Which is weird because I'm pretty sure it's the same guy that does all their promotional videos.

Almost laughable. Germanic humor? The video was good, albeit hard to focus on the visual side with the twilight zone narration.

I don't know, but I can tell you that Porsche are still trying to recruit a Senior Aero Performance Engineer and a Head of Aero and Thermodynamics.

That is very funny and so true .
Us Aussies cop a lot of ribbing over our accents , but that blokes voice/accent is very, very strange. They are trying to be serious about their great victory, but have only succeeded in that video sounding utterly ridiculous. I think there will be another re-done version surfacing in the not too distant future.
