cthib10 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Corvette Racing's first GT2 race!

So I was wondering how people think Corvette Racing will do in their first GT2 race in the Acura Sports Car Challenge at the Mid-Ohio? Do you think they will make the podium?

I personally know I can't wait to see how they stack up the first race out. I will be pulling for a podium finish it will be nice to see an American car that can compete for a win!

A podium finish is certainly possible. They won't be able to touch Risi or the Lizards, but I'd expect them to be able to at least challenge the BMWs... so with a little luck and a DNF or two from the oppossition there might well be two Corvette drivers on the podium!

they have 2 cars, so i think they have a legitimate shot. I count on the Lizards being on the podium, and Risi is likely as well, but after that I see it as up in the air. Well I guess not up in the air, there are a handful of cars with no shot, but I dont' put the Vettes in that category.

They should be reliable, have good pit stops and they have excellent drivers that know how to stay out of trouble. With two cars, even if they are off the Lizard and Risi pace, that adds up to a podium these days.

Nah, they'll sandbag for the 1st 2 rounds but maybe @ PLM & Laguna they'll improve!

1 car DNFs, the other finishes 4th after 62/45/90 (or 92).

I love Corvette, but it sounds like this is exactly what will happen. The 3 or 4 I predict will finish 4th or 5th highest.

The factory corvettes have alway run a very tight and well organised challenge but this race will be seen as a proving ground and they will be more interested in seeing how it runs and were it's weaknesses are rather tah instant success, however if they have a good run 4th would be treated as a major success and a podium would be a very welcome present to a team still not certain about the future.

I am pretty surprised at how many people there are thinking Corvette can't even put 1 car on the podium. I don't think they would run them yet if they knew they wouldn't be able to perform well. I mean this is Corvette Racing not a low budget privateer team after all.

Marcel Fassler says he won't test the car before racing it at PLM because Corvette will test at the races... money is tight.

I guess it is hard to guage just how hard they will contest this race. Will they just be trying to get a feel for the car in race conditions or will they go all out and push hard to win? They are a pretty thorough and disciplined team and they will go in with a plan and stick to it. I believe that the qualifying might determine what they actually do in the race. If they qualify well and are either on pole or the first row of GT2, they might go for it in which case a car on the podium is a possibility. If they qualify 5th and 6th or so, they may just opt to run a development strategy where they will only score a podium if other cars have failures. Either way, it will nice to see them in direct competition with the Porsches, Ferrari, Panoz and BMWs.

Remember that when they started the GT1 program, they were not successful right out of the box. The C5R was launched in 1999, but did not deliver a win until either Mosport or Texas in 2000.

And this GT2 car has ten years of GT1 cars behind it.

And the R15 had 10 years + of other Audi LMP1 experience behind it, didn't stop it falling apart at Le Mans though did it

Sorry, that is a very bad comparison!! I know that I am biased in this, but, this transition from GT-1 to GT-2 using the same base car is far removed from building an entirely different beast as the R-10 & R-15 are to each other! Apples and Oranges.

If getting on the podium is falling apart I am sure Corvette Racing wouldn't mind that type of terrible effort .
