Place your bets 2

Pretty much the same theme as the other thread, but for the other Championships. Just wondering what peoples opinions are for the people who will be at the front in the Combe, Midlands and possible Southern. Obvious choices are last years front runners but there must be people who could be outsiders for wins and a high finish. and old faces returning to these championships now FF1600 is quite high profile again.

It looks like SFFC, SOM and CCFF peeps can't be bothered to get involved in this thread.
Pity.
I would have expected at least one reply from the 'birthday boy', but he is probably too busy eating all his Mars Bars Selection boxes.
Come on Justin Dawkins, where are you? If not you JD, what about young Ian Sowman - your publicity machine!

Think Justin is away skiing, so a peaceful week

in answer to the thread, suppose it'll be the same front runners unless there are any new faces? anyone know the main contenders at Combe this year? seems every year they lose a front runner.

your right Diz, seems the Midland/southern boys arent interested in banter like the Northern lot.

Never really hear from the Combe lot on this site do you. do they have computers down that way?

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply JD. It took a while to decipher your post. Are the Mars Bars 9.0% volume over there?

Front runners @ combe this year, in my opinion.

Ed Moore
Andrew Harris
Paul Barnes
Andrew Jones

I think Nick Jones will be the man to beat in B class

These names are only my opinion judged by who raced last year and who has CONFIRMED they will race this year.

ooh yes, and now that the cars sorted....me

Not sure who Kevins running, I gues the regular Paul Barnes/Nick Jones but the drive in his swift and a new RF04 Kent is advertised in autosport.

I'm hoping a few new racers from other tracks, or maybe a few old hands who have been away will turn up. Those sort of races made the best races last year. The non-championship even with Kevin Mills and Robin Parsons was a great race to watch/take part in, and the Carnival with the Hutch and a few others returning was another great race.

Barnes still racing!!? wow. well at least there will be the shunts still up front. if thats the front runners Ed should walk it, with barnes the next closest, but can honestly see them taking each other off. after that its anyones guess. think they need some fast people there. wheres everyone gone from years back?

higgins only raced a few races last year but promised to turn up for loads (according to CC race programs) so I don't know, he ran at the front but only did 2 races I think.

Axford won the championship and said he'd retire but may do the odd race here and there, Ashly won the 2002 championship and retired. Not seen or heard anything of him scince. Rivett is on the forum and is racing all around the UK this year, he should create some good races around the uk, Ames said he was doing Zetec this year or "something" else.

Seeing as you asked (a few days ago) Diz - my contribution to the thread.

SOM prediction:

1 Gavin Wills
2 Peter Daly
3 Justin Dawkins

Few reasons why Gavin will win this year. First, he can do all the races; second, he's got more experience with the car now, so set-up should be closer to perfect, especially in the wet; third, Daly is bound to have a DNF/non-podium finish (only one in 16 races last year!).

Each of the top three will win races.

he has a long way to go to be perfect in the wet. cant start, and cant stop. struggles in them conditions, Daly will take any wet wins. other than them 3 are there any outsiders who could prove to be a suprise?

Anyone know anyone doing the SFFC apart from JohnM? anyone of any note down there?

I did say closer to perfect... and actually it seemed to me that until he slithered off track Gavin went reasonably well in the WHT final (admittedly not as well as Peter).

As for 'surprises' - I guess some of the visitors could spring one - Mr Rivett possibly, Ed Moore if he makes the trip up...

It'll be good racing at all tracks this year I think.

FF1600 seems to have got a real enthusiasm about it this year and towards the end of last year that I have not seen scince I started racing.

If I'm not racing, and don't have the cash to race at another circuit that week too I may even drive down to watch the odd event or two.

Is going to be a good one. like you its money which is a shame because i really was starting to go well in the new car. this year im going to have to use last years tyres, and siphon the petrol out the girlfriends car! so mattray in the same boat as you. but yeah am doing the champion of brands series with a couple of midland and combe rounds, thats the plan im working towards anyway. unless brands fees go up then i aint doing any.

So Matt(d) you not got budget on the whole series? or just playing it by ear?
