Cumberland River Raceway

This is the historic circuit of Cumberland River Raceway, the modern version will be up later.

Story:
The Cumberland River Raceway was first proposed in 1961 as a purpose built course for European style Formula racing. The proposal gained its name when it was approved for a site near the Cumberland River in Clarksville, Tennessee. Construction began in 1962 and was completed near the end of the following year.

The circuit's most famous point was the Parabolica, and massive right hander which was designed to be incredibly difficult for the (wingless, skinny tired) F1 cars of the time. While the top tier formula never came to the circuit, lesser formulae did and the difficulty of the course proved fatal. Sandtraps were added around T1, Parabolica, both of the kinked west corners, and the final corner sequence.

The circuit added a short 'corkscrew' layout for local series, bypassing the Parabolica to add to a confusing plethora of short circuit layouts. As wings began to appear on more formula cars, the late model F1 cars and lower formula cars that ran the course became incredibly fast into the Parabolica. However, there was only one line through Parabolica, resulting in single file trains which chaotically dispersed on corner exit. To help alleviate the problem, a chicane was added to cut up Parabolica; unfortunately, the chicane tight entry resulted in only one effective line through it, and only increased the danger by forcing cars to brake from high speed mid-corner.

The track would fade into obscurity, despite many attempts to make it more modern in the 1980's and 90's, including paving over some of the gravel traps, widening, new (less harsh) kerbs, etc.

However, in the late 90's the course would be bought and renovated heavily...

GP (longest) is 4.52 mi./ 7.29 km

Story:

The new owners first rebuilt the East circuit, and destroying a small part of the roads leading to and from Parabolica in the process, cutting the corner from the track and placing stands and barriers in their place. The land this left around Parabolica was sold and made into a campground, but the new owner left the remainder of Parabolica and its gravel trap.

The next set of renovations would destroy the pit lane for the South circuit and see the East circuit's dual hairpins moved closer to the old Parabolica. A new pit lane was built for the South circuit and a new connecting section was made to link the South and East circuits but allowing them to now be run simultaneously.

Finally, a new paddock straight was built to allow to allow the West circuit to be combined with the South circuit and two kinks on the West circuit were smoothed out.

I liked the historic better! Tell them to change it back!

I do like the South East configuration on the new circuit though, looks like it could be fun.

*The real reason for the new circuit was so the east and south short circuits were independent of one another.

This circuit sits very close to the Ochoco National Forest in Oregon, outside the city of Prineville. This circuit was another victim of car evolution turning formerly challenging courses into a procession. The track would eventually close after an earthquake rendered it unusable. However, it would still end up being purchased and rebuilt with the infield short circuit and imposing Mountain Bend being about all that remained of the classic circuit.

The new circuit is much more compact and in the process of becoming electrically self-sufficient following the construction of solar cells on in the disused areas at the base of the mountain and the ongoing construction of wind turbines around its peak.

I mean, except the fact it's way too narrow for anything. Great design work there.

Nile Raceway (2.63 mi./4.24 km) to be constructed on an artificial island in the river somewhere in Egypt, maybe in the artificial lake.

Also, the map is upside down (OCD), attachments are being odd.

Alexandria Raceway

To the west of Alexandria city in Egypt, by the coastline. Primary uses are national and regional championships as well as track days. I can see a WTCC on the "racing in Africa" selling point, but it would be too short for other major international series.

You can most definitely see part of where I was being indecisive with the final layout.

Circuit del Mar

Set on the Californian coast, this venue features many tight corners and is primarily suited to touring cars and amateur categories. T1 and the T9-10 double apex hairpin are the main overtaking opportunities, with T14 and 18 also being viable options.

Expected categories would be SCCA, NASA, possibly the Road to Indy, with NASCAR an off chance, and WTCC a long term goal.

The street circuit styled design also has places designated for karting, autocross, and motocross circuits on site.

Shahran Raceway

Located on the high plateau of the Asir region of Saudi Arabia, Shahran Raceway derives its name from the local tribes.

In retrospect, an optional chicane on the backstraight would be beneficial for lower classes. An updated version will probably eventually trickle out.

The remains of an older design are still apparent but the older one suffered from the common issue (for me) of poorly scaled corners.

GP course is 3.12 mi/5.03 km

Pacific Coast Raceway

I love how everyone comments everytime SKG makes a track, but almost never for anyone else.

Set near the California-Oregon border on the coast, the Pacific Coast Raceway is a sort of American NRing. Later modifications saw the addition of a modern arena front straight, a pair of short circuit layouts staying true to the original's style, and one very fast section of track on the southwest part being modernized because of the danger of the original layout.

7.8 mi./12.58 km (the front straight is a cause for discussion due to its length [bloody FIA])
