Mike Sheraton should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
[ETCC] the cup to be split into 4 race series

As above the european touring car series will be split into a four race series.
The four races will be held in:
1.Portugal - 28th March
2.Germany - 6th June
3.Austria - 11th July
4.Italy - 17th October

each race meeting will consist of two 50km races and the best pointscorer over the four races will be the ETCC Champion.

It is hoped that because most of the races will be held during most respective touring car championships seasons, that a higher amount and quality of entries will appear, this is also the reasoning for the variaty of areas.

Yeah, but is it easier to travel to four places on both ends of Europe, than go to just one? Anyway, I like the idea, more races - more racing Maybe some drivers, who can't afford, let say, 8 rounds, will switch to this series. Are the tracks confirmed? For Austria, I hope it's Salzburgring

The race in Germany is probably Hockenheim, at least that's the track usually visited by Procar in early June...

However, holding more events during the main season means more chances of a clash with other events.

As far as BTCC teams are concerned, Germany clashes with Oulton Park so that's a non-starter. Portugal is the week prior to the opening round at Thruxton and Italy is the week after the season finale at Brands Hatch, which doesn't give much time to get the car prepared and transported that distance. Only the Austrian round fits the schedule as it's in the middle of the mid-season break.

Bit disappointed - agree with Redshoes about the timing, unless the BTCC guys have spare cars it pretty much rules them out - and no doubt there will be clashes with the other championships/ events the following weekend.

I can't see the Portugese or Italian rounds being much of an attraction to teams racing the main championships either, unless someone like Engstrom decides to not do the STCC, and just concentrate on the ETCC.

I hope its a success - but it just seems a bit of an odd thing to do when the independents are probably struggling more than ever to secure the funding to do their own national championships, let alone go and do these extra races.

I'm sure Engstler will be up for it tho if there are no clashes with anything else he is doing - he seems to really enjoy his racing, and there will be other teams that will be interested - I just think though that they'd be better off tagging it onto say 3 WTCC events in Europe, and then having 1 or 2 weekends for the ETCC guys at Salzburgring and somewhere else when the WTCC cars head off to Asia.

Hopefully they stick to smaller circuits like Braga and Salzburgring rather than giving us a 15 car field at Monza or Hockenheim.

The second and third race clashes with STCC races.

Are we sure that there will be separate ETCC races at all? Or could they just designate selected Procar, PTCC and ITCC (does that even still exist?) rounds as points-paying for the European title?

An ETCC that would bring together the best of the national series for ~4 races a year is a good idea, they just all need to get their heads together and put together a calender with no clashes (and that includes Britain and Sweden which have some of the biggest S2000 championships in the world).

In theory a great idea but I think it will be a failure. Teams have probably not the budget to do 4 races besides their national series.

Especially when the majority of these races happen at the opposing end of Europe to where there are actually successful S2000 championships running.

They really should find tracks eg in BeNeLux/France/Poland instead of Portugal/Italy/Austria if they want to spread the sport to "new areas" but still be within sane distance for eg British, Danish or Swedish teams to join.

Though I guess Portugal in late March might be interesting for eg some STCC teams, just to get an early start testing and real race practice after the winter months.

I've heard quite some positive voices about these plans from STCC teams.

As in "that sounds like a good idea in theory, but we cant go" or "we will do ETC instead of STCC"?

Hmm, I guess doing ETC Cup and STC Cup could be an interesting combo since only Göteborg/Germany overlap (and I guess the dates are yet not set in stone?)

ETCC - Portugal - 28th March
S(c)TCC - Denmark - 24-25. April
S(c)TCC - Göteborg - 4-5. June
ETCC - Germany - 6th June
ETCC - Austria - 11th July
S(c)TCC - Denmark - 3-5 September
S(c)TCC - Knutstorp - 17-18 September
ETCC - Italy - 17th October

Do we seriously think BTCC and STCC teams will bother with four races, even if there aren't clashes? It would be a bonus to the BTCC teams if it was on a broadcaster other than Eurosport.

Combined STCC/ETCC program looks more feasible now. ETCC Germany is the week after STCC Gellerasen but otherwise there a couple of weeks gap between races.

BTCC/ETCC combination still looks unlikely, no direct clashes but still logistically difficult.

The logic behind that reasoning is not apparent to me. To me it seems the logistics problems and "closeness to other event" is pretty much equal in magnitude between S(c+w)TCC and BTCC teams. Both have 2 times with only 1 week between their own and the ETCC event and distances are about the same.

The logic is that British teams have three 'near misses', Swedish teams have one.

BTCC Thruxton is week after ETCC Braga
BTCC Oulton Park is week after ETCC Oschersleben
ETCC Franciacorta is week after BTCC Brands Hatch
vs
ETCC Oschersleben is week after STCC Karlskoga
plus the STCC event is on a Saturday which means an extra day between the two events.
