Better for Pantano to be in F1 with Jordan than not in F1 at all though.

Ahgree with you, ultimately.
Another F3000 season would have been absolutely meaningless in terms of career perspectives.

You can be sure EJs in talks right up to the FIAs deadline...with anyone who can get a Super License and at least 3 million together...if it's Pantano...fine by us!...tin helmets on...head for the air-raid shelters...every man for himself!

No official announcement yet? Wasn't this supposed to have happened according to the original article?

Anyway to test with Jordan...

The 25-year-old, who came third in F3000 last season, said his goal at Jordan would be to emulate the kind of 'team spirit' built-up by Michael Schumacher.

Just read this PANTANO wants to do a SCHUMI...!! firstly with THAT Jordon hes gonna have to to a LOT more than a SCHUMI to make them quick!!!

If he's hoping to have one race for Jordan, then Renault snaps him up ... Eddie Jordan isn't going to enjoy that one.

When is the FIA driver deadline?

"Giorgio Pantano will race for Jordan Ford this season alongside Nick Heidfeld, the Silverstone-based team announced late on Friday"

It seems in the end he got it, looks a pretty good line up for EJ, in the end!

Finally!

Good stuff. Looking like a strong and promising line-up, a good mix of youth and experience. I've no idea how Jordan can afford to have these two, neither of them being known to have significant commercial backing, but I'll be happy to see their names on the cars.

20 drivers! Now, let's get racing.

Heidfeld and Pantano - great lineup

But how competitive will their machinery be?

A lot will depend on the engine (Ford) and the ability of jordan to get the best out of the EJ14 design. Last year they were in survival mode and did little to develop the chassis which is why Fisichella had such unspirited late season performances. How good is Hiedfeld at developing a chassis? And would Pantano be a better choice than Jos? I'd say yes, given his past performances.
If Nick can make this thing sing he'll do alot for his reputation, if not ...

I'm wondering if EJ pulled a fast one with Benson & Hedges...from what I can gather they wanted a home grown driver...no sooner do they announce they've extended their deal with Jordan than Pantano is signed.
And yes I am a little biased there seems to have been a concerted dig at everything "British" in F1 recently..the circuits not good enough for a GP, the teams lookinbg to go elsewhere claiming the government/eu is driving them out of Britain, Bernie having a little dig at Button...sorry I'm a bit fed up with it all.
Roll on the GT season

Alright we now have 2 Jordan drivers and Verstappen is consigned to history, Amen to that.

Time to start worrying about testing times... On the bright side Jordan started the week 5 seconds off the pace and 4 days later had got it down to just over 2, now thats development!
