The BMW M4 GT4 has carbon-fibre doors and bonnet. Not exactly a budget GT.

The Northern and Southern cups sounds like an interesting format, except that Misano is well south of Magny-Cours.

The Mc Laren 570s GT4 is a Carbon-fibre car and its cost is £159,900.

Oh, that could be temporary:

Further changes are set to be made for 2018, with the championship splitting into three cups: Northern, Southern and Alpine

The latter is expected to host rounds in countries including Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

I like the North/South idea and I think that should work out if the majority of the current teams stay in the Northern series and the Southern Cup becomes populated by Spanish and esp. French teams, but the Alpine Cup is probably a bridge too far. Italy has a GT4 class in its national GT championship and I don't see too much potential in the other countries listed, esp with TCR fishing in the same pool and a well established GT series for Eastern Europe in the Eset V4 Cup.

So McLaren will be showing the McLaren 570s GT4 for the first time in the U.S. Shortly at the Pebble Beach Concours. Interested to see if the car can find a customer in the U.S. With the PWC and IMSA both running full GT4 in 2017

From Andrew Cotton's (RCE) interview with Stephane Ratel - SRO have plans to eventually propose two regional GT4 series in America based on the North/South European GT4 series. The series will be based on the East and West Coasts, with five races each on alternate weekends so a team could do both series if they could afford it.

I've not been keeping up with GT4, so for those of you who do - what do you think the chances of this working in the US are?

It depends on what drivers want. Organizers can either listen to them or ignore them.

I have no idea what an Ekris is, or a Sin for that matter.

Ekris is a Dutch team racing BMW M4s: http://ekrismotorsport.nl/

Sin is a relatively new German-Bulgarian manufacturer of racing and sports cars. Available in the UK: http://sincars.co.uk/

A great racing weekend at Hungaroring resulted in one win for the Porsche Cayman GT4 (Jörg Viebahn and Peter Terting, PROsport Performance) and one win to the Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 (Patrick Zamparini and Luca Anselmi, Villorba Corse).

A presentation by Stephane Ratel at the Euro GT4 meeting at the Hungaroring last weekend gave some new insight into a couple of coming programmes into what looks set to be a booming GT marketplace in the seasons to come with new and expanding markets opening up in Europe, North America and beyond.

...

Either side of that though are a pair of silhouetted cars (both incidentally not silhouette of the intended combatants, but rather placeholder images of a blacked out Porsche!)

Unsurprisingly one image is labelled with Audi, Audi Sport evaluated a version of the Audi TT earlier this year for future suitability in GT4.

However sources are now suggesting that the eventual GT4 car from Audi might actually emerge as a version of the larger R8. Time will tell.

The other manufacturer listed is Mercedes Benz AMG – is another racing version of the AMG GT set to emerge from the customer motorsport arm of Mercedes?

I think it is equally important to make sure that some of today's participants, such as Aston Martin and Maserati, retain their interest in the class and series.

This used to be a cheep series, now it might getting too expensive with manufacturers turning their attention to it.

SRO announcing GT5 incoming.

In a rational world - ha! - we'd have proper renumbering. There is no GT1 or GT2 any more, so why is the top GT class called GT3? (That's before we get into GTE, GTLM and GTD.)

Compared to the other TCR cars the new Audi RS3 isn't cheap either.

But I agree TCR will become more popular in near future.

TCR will become popular in the US come the end of November when it makes it's US debut.

I don't know what the Audi costs but a VW costs $124,000 USD (without shipping or customs). As we all know, the Seat, VW and Audi are the same, just different bodywork.

Cars look cool standing still, but are not that interesting watching them in person. Only thing that is interesting is to watch non-FWD guys spin out all of the time.
