N.TECHNOLOGY READY FOR DEBUT

N.Technology were on track at the Italian test circuit of Franciacorta on Thursday for a shakedown ahead of the next week's official FIA World Touring Car Championship testing session in Valencia, Spain.

With the Honda Accord Euro R car now finished - in collaboration with JAS Motorsport - the team focused on ensuring the car's readiness for the test that will take place at the Ricardo Tormo circuit on Tuesday April 15 and Wednesday April 16.
Besides James Thompson's N.Technology, six other teams will take part in the test.
They include the three BMW national teams: BMW Team UK with Andy Priaulx, BMW Team Germany's two cars for Jörg Müller and Augusto Farfus and BMW Team Italy-Spain with two cars for Alessandro Zanardi and Félix Porteiro.
SEAT Sport's five drivers - Jordi Gené, Rickard Rydell, Gabriele Tarquini, Yvan Muller and Tiago Monteiro - will take turns in three León TDI cars.
Chevrolet will bring only one Lacetti while SUNRED Engineering will run Tom Coronel's SEAT León TFSI.
Yesterday's shakedown, together with next week's test, marks the start of N.Technology's 2008 campaign before heading to the WTCC rounds in Spain next month for their racing debut.

We will see 5 new cars on the grid. 3 Honda's and 2 Lada's.
The Honda's of N-Technology and Golden Motors and the 2 Lada's from Russian Bears Motorsport. Maybee we could also see Maria de Villota with the Maurer Motorsport Chevy.

Long time to ship cars from all over the world? WTCC do not have the same infrastructure and transport as F1 have. They don't fly cars and equipment all the time, mostly they send all things by boat.

off topic mode..

i have my ways Most are line drawings re drawn from companies line drawings or if I'm lucky cad screengrabs etc. I've done quite a few sponsorship proposals, so I think the only car I've had to draw specifically for the tin-top guides is the Chevrolet. Back of brochures are useful- but they aren't always accurate

Worst case situation like the chevy, I had to base it on an illustration and scretch and scew to fit its line work. If you look at the MG on the BTCC guide, you'll see it has some perspective on the front (it dates back a long time before I did these). Logo wise, again, there are resources etc around + I have a big library and you see the same sponsors popping up.

anyway, back on-topic

I'm still not convinced I should invest any time in drawing up the Lada's (these would be from scratch) - what do you lot think

It's difficult for me to know how much spare time you have on your hands. If not a lot, perhaps it would be wise to wait until we actually see the cars participating on a time trial or something. I think they will show up, but that doesn't costs me neither time nor efforts in vane if they don't. But if you have the time, it would be nice to have them when/if they show up.

Are you sure we will see Golden Motors with Hondas in next WTCC? Last I heard they where thinking about renting a spare Audi for STCC.

Well, Honda has actually been at official testing sessions and will be on the grind in STCC this weekend. AFAIK the Ladas are actually still to be seen on a track at all. So there is a difference.

I'm guessing Golder Motors = Artman?

If so, yes they will do all European WTCC rounds as well as ETCC, they are looking at renting the Audi in STCC to get more track time on tracks that are similar to the ones used in WTCC (since theres basicly only airfeild tracks in Russia). The reason they are not using the Hondas in STCC is cause they are currently being prepared for WTCC and wont have time to race in STCC. Thats what I've gatherd anyway.

I think so, though I had to first google Golder Motors to figure out it might be the same team called Artman, so I'm partially assuming it's the same team. Thanks for the info about how the Audi fits into the picture

FARFUS FASTEST IN VALENCIA TEST
Augusto Farfus emerged as the fastest driver in today’s WTCC official test at Valencia. The BMW Team Germany’s driver posted the fastest time of the day

Augusto Farfus emerged as the fastest driver in today"s WTCC official test at Valencia. The BMW Team Germany"s driver posted the fastest time of the day in the morning session with a lap of 1:42.990, which was one second quicker of last year"s pole position. Farfus was also the only driver to go under the 1:43 barrier.

Second fastest was his team-mate Jörg Müller with a three-tenth gap, closely followed by SEAT Sport's Jordi Gené and Yvan Muller and Chevrolet's Nicola Larini.

With a lap of 1:43.250 Farfus again topped the afternoon session that proved to be slower; only two drivers managed to improve their lap times in the afternoon: Gabriele Tarquini by 1.2 seconds and James Thompson in the brand new N.Technology Honda Accord. On the first proper test with the new machine, the Briton spent most of the afternoon in the garage as the team worked on his car and rejoined the session in the last 30 minutes, setting a best lap of 1:44.168.

The test will continue tomorrow. At SEAT Sport Gené and Muller will leave the wheel to Rickard Rydell and Tiago Monteiro respectively, while Alain Menu will step in for Larini at Chevrolet.
