Should F1 bring back the Sunday Morning warm up?

I was reading Nigel Mansell's twitter comments on the Brazil GP and he made the point that in his day there was a short Sunday morning warm up session that meant if weather conditions had changed markedly at least they could do some preperation work on ride heights and wet weather settings - with ride heights being a major factor in aquaplaning.

I know that in the supposed budget trimming, parc ferme regs and testing cuts we have now, the warm up as now gone, and the teams can make 'appropriate changes' to the cars if climatic conditions change. But they can't try them and the drivers can't familiarise themselves with the track if it is wet. But perhaps it could be brought back if the weather has changed between qualifying and the race, so at least the teams and drivers would be more prepared for the race if the conditions have changed and they had not had any wet running at all that weekend.

I would also make it mandatory (under wet weather regulations) for all drivers to take part in a 15 min session close to the race start time so the conditions are still current.

Thoughs?

Perhaps open the pitlane 30 mins before the race start and give the drivers 15 mins to run unlimited laps through the pitlane?

Like now in other words. And it already is mandatory.

In wet races there is a benefit for early morning warm-ups but for the dry races...allowing the top cars more opportunities to optimize their set ups could just lend itself to a more follow the leader type parade.

If the price of greater uncertainty is an occasional half hour of red flag or starts under SC then I would say on aggregate the racing is better without the early morning warm up.

But running through the pit lane doesn't allow you to familiarise yourself with conditions on the pit straight; in Brazil, that's one of the wettest parts.

Depends on where they qualified. Warm up often showed some car/drivers were lot more comfortable on full tanks than not.

I'd accept Sunday morning warm up again but as part of an overhaul of the race weekend, that way there would be no quibbles about engine mileage or tyre usage.

The weather might not be the same in the early morning as it is during the race, making it potentially pointless.

I've been banging the drum for this change for a while. With the regulations as they are I don't understand why we have parc ferme rules anyway. Just stop the teams working all night on the car unless its needed. They can only change the settings in the morning after a certain time up until the race start. In other words, how it is right now up until qualifying finishes.

They already change things such as engines and are only allowed a limited number so I don't think it would add much to the cost (if that is the issue) anyway.

The only thing preventing us having a Sunday morning warm up is the Parc Ferme rules. It's a shame because it means you get to see the drivers out on track more than once on race day
