A 7 from me.
It's such a shame Kubica retired though. |

A big disappointment when Kubica went out, after such a great start, otherwise the Button tyre strategy and then Kobayashi's overtaking barely kept alive a rather processional race.

The race had loads of promise and there were times when it started to come alive. Red Bull were always going to win and with Kubica retiring before the restart that helped them out.
Mclaren seemed to have a bad day at the office and so it was left up to Kobayashi to provide all the entertainment. |

Hamilton's gearbox problem took one major point of interest out of the race. There was lots of excitement but it was mostly of the incident sort. Good call not to throw a SC near the end. Suzuka's an excellent circuit. |

6 Apart from the odd kamikasi attempts very little 'racing'; have always been of the opinion that penalty points for mechanical failure ruined the prospect of a good race and this GP? a case in point. As for the loss of grid positions reducing costs....

A race made interesting only by dint of poor driving and car failure.
I also agree that teams should be allowed to use an unlimited supply of chassis/engines/gearboxes/tyres/testing and wind tunnel days in order to save on costs.....resulting from far fewer teams bothering to take part. |

And people seem to accept it. A number of passings in de midfield by kobayashi make people rate the race with a 6 or even higher.
Today Formula 1 showed its true face: drivers can’t overtake because they lose grip and overheat their brakes, engine and gearbox as soon as they start to slipstream. Too much slipstreaming in Japan could cause an engine or gearbox failure in Abu Dhabi, resulting in a starting grid penalty. |

6 out of 10 from me. Would have been a typically boring dry Suzuka race if it weren't for Kobayashi and (to an extent) Schumacher, who dragged the race up from a rating of 3 or 4.
I don't think FujiTV did this race any favours in the ratings stakes. |

A generous 4. Apart from 2005, recent races at Suzuka have been poor. You only see overtaking there when a fast car is put to the back for whatever reason.

Regular-class race. The first lap incidents and the excellent drive by Kamui made me to stay awake watching TV during all the event.

Very average race enlightened only by the respective efforts or one K Kobayashi and one M Schumacher!
Why is it that the circuits that the drivers love so much are perhaps the most boring for us fans to watch them race on!! |

Kobi was the only driver trying to entertain.
The crash(es) at the start robbed us of 4 cars which didn't help. Not a great race, great track, though its a shame that Suzuka is suffering from the tarmac run off plague that is infecting other old school tracks now. |

Pretty much echo that....shame that Hamilton's gearbox woes ruined what could have been a bit of a fight - and may well affect Korea - if it happens....
