That quote reads to me as.... "Unless you change substantially, we are not interested". And given how things are going right now, I (sadly) see nothing changing with F1 that would facilitate VWAG moving into F1. The rest of the article is full of "what if" scenarios of how it could play out. I don't doubt a logical case could be made to enter F1 (such as that article), but an equally valid case can be easily made to not do it. I am of the mind that a much stronger case exists to stay out "for now". No beef with you or the article, but it is just as much speculation as any others on the topic.

Purely from a marketing point of view the allure of F1 is tempting but F1's in a mess at the moment and if I were Piech, I'd steer well clear from it.

maybe this is a weird train of thought...

if removing BE gets a VW confirmation then why wouldnt CVC get rid of BE so that they could move forward with a potentially even more valuable (and less troublesome) flotation of the sport?

and it wouldnt just stop at VW branded team entering would it? other manus would feel more pressure to get in on the game wouldnt they? Honda with its foot in the door and now if Audi is headed to F1 surely Toyota would follow suit as well no?

so even if CVC split off more money for the teams, i would have to guess that bottom line is that more manu's in F1 would still make it a more valuable commodity overall to potential investors. and since CVC's mandate is to improve the return on their clients investments then the only issue for them should be how to maximize what they get through a flotation...which means finding more manu entrants.

so if this is about money one would think BE would have been shown the door by now (and he has given them enough valid reasons that no one would even see it as a controversial decision).

there are times i see CVC/F1 as the greediest organization out there and then there are other situations, like with supporting BE, where the shareholders, through their actions, seem to place loyalty far above greed. its confusing.

Chilli I suspect it is because the way Bernie operates he makes himself indespensable. As there is no obvious successor to Bernie then he will remain in control until he finds himself in a wooden box 6 foot under.

The only reason why Bernie is still there, is because CVC are totally clueless when it comes to motorsport and they are therefore completely reliant on Bernie; just look at his history.

Formula One isn't motorsport to CVC. It's merely a cash cow for them. The best person to milk it is Bernie.

Who watches F1 or who's racing in it is of no consequence to them so long as they're making money. Caterham and Marussia going means two teams fewer to pay out to.

I don't see why Horner is continually linked with Bernie to replace him - I still think there's a shred somewhere within Horner's heart that still sees this as a sport.

CVC are talking about a chairman of the F1 group.....
Now Bernie has no been taken back onto the board (if I am correct) but is he the chairman of the group.... ? I didn't think so.

If he is not then there are two different roles. one may influence the other, but it may not be a replacement for Bernie. A different boss...

I know but I've seen no news that he was reappointed since then.

And it would make sense that he wasn't reappointed given the outcry and the unsatisfactory outcome of the bribery scandal. It also makes sense that they didn't lose him completely - he's the only guy who can decipher this byzantine sport - so they'll keep him on hand but in a diminished capacity.

Since that this topic came up in the Button thread and given what's happening with gas prices and the trickle down effect that could have on industries connected to the gas companies, this doesn't seem like an opportune time for anyone to consider f1.

Sponsorship money is going to be even harder to find for the upcoming year. I don't think anyone new is coming in for a while.
