Terry S should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Obscure Penalties

I feel that I am pretty conversant with penalties having been to race meetings for over 50 years, however every now and then one comes up that I can't understand.

I note from the Stewards Report on the Bathurst race that cars #888 and #4 each got the same PLP:

"for a breach of the Safety Car Re-start procedures (fail to traverse pit lane when 2 or more laps down at restart)

Can someone please explain this?

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
v8 supercars have a rule that cars 2 laps down should drive through pit lane so as not to impede the rest of the field (i dont beleive they are the only series that do this) they have had this rule for quite a long time now.

I guess some drivers forgot, or were vague on its interpretation

So Lowndes and Richards did not know about it either. So I am in good company.

Has it been used at Bathurst in recent years as I don't recall it being enforced?

I reckon they knew as it is not new, they just forgot at the time

It has been used at bathurst in recent years (and other events), But i agree its the first time i have seen a penalty

article from earlier this year

Quote:
11.2.15 Prior to the lead Car crossing the Control Line at the end of a SC deployment, or on the restart lap, any Car that is 2 or more laps behind the lead Car must reposition itself such that it is not in front of any Car that is less than 2 laps behind the lead Car. This may only be achieved by driving through Pit Lane.

It has been around a couple of years at least; I recall seeing a car going down pit lane at the 2014 1000, and asking the question of someone there at the time.

There were 3 cars that were pit bound at the last Safety Car, including the Supergirls' unit, to get out of the way of the cars on the same lap.

Great way to get them out of the mix..

The commentators clearly didn't know about the penalty either as on one reatart they complimented the cars on "getting out of the way".
