Cutting costs
Okay, I've just read yet another "F1 must cut costs or die" article on another Web site. I also read somewhere that Max Mosley has all but given up trying to reduce costs because nothing work's.
We're an intellligent bunch (well most of us)(okay, most of you) so what's the answer? The ability to purchase another team's old (or even current)chassis would help although the flaw in that is that if you take on a driver prone to crashing you could physically run out of chassis and be left carless. How about each team being allocated a certain number of tyres for the entire year to include racing and testing. Also, limit each teams space in the paddock to 2 standard articulated trucks (I can't remember how much McL's communications centre cost but I know it was millions). |

There is no such thing as cutting costs. The teams will spend every single penny they have, and ask for more. Is simple. Those who spend more will win more and will get more cash next year, those who spend less will lose and get less cash next year, the equation is simple. The entire "cut the costs" melodrama only helps to keep a gap between Ferrari/McLaren and Minardi in 3-4 seconds per lap, instead 10-20.

Yes, as it's already been clarified, the cost cutting policy is of paramount importance for privateers, but big teams, supported by huge corporations, to whom 100 millions € more or less is peanuts, just aim at winning, not at saving.
"Tey pay us to win, not to save" told frankly Ron Dennis some years ago, period. Last edited by climb; 19 Feb 2004 at 16:25. |

And that's what makes it F1... Ban track testing, we'll spend 50 mill on a new rolling wind tunnel... Ban Qualifying engines, we'll destroy 100 engines more a year in dyno testing... Instead of cutting costs, why don't they reverse the funding structure... Who need the largest share of the TV money? Ferrari who get the coverage needed to faciliate adequite sponsorship or Minardi who are in the not fast enough to get the coverage, not enough coverage to get a sponsor, not enough sponsorship to build a fast car, not a fast enough car... circle. Surely the stronger the sport is the more likely ALL teams are to prosper?
