I like it. It's great for the noise it produces alone:

As for the engine rules,I agree, way too much restricting of engine types.

I'm just glad the engine rule only applies to gt500, always enjoyed the variety of cars racing in gt300 with different engines and such. That V8 rule eliminates any entry from a team with a European car for that matter so no more Lambos or Ferraris even if they werent competitive. Nice to see a Mosler back in SuperGT too.

Matador should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The engine rule is there to reduce costs. The idea is to use it in as many series as possible. It is the same engine used in formula nippon, and is rumored to conform to 2011(?) Le Mans regulations.

I am glad though that GT300 allows many different configs!

Has Indy made a decision on their new engine yet?

First they need to build the permanent track. It will take a while!
Not necessarily. GTs can race in tight street circuits - see Pau, Macau.

GTA and three manufacturers decided the design of the 09 engine of FN and S-GT to be shared in 2006.
09 engine is 3.4 liters, 90-degree engine.
The bore diameter of 09 engines is provided 93mm or less in 09 regulation.
Therefore, stroke is decided about 62.6mm because of the engine displacement.
This is "short-stroke" type engine.
However, because the use of air-restrictor is obligated, the short-stroke type engine is not suitable for S-GT.
It is because the long-stroke type is more advantageous to improve the compression ratio.
The torque of 09 engine is more insufficient than that of 08 engine (4.5 liters).
Therefore, 09 engines increase the engine rotational speed.
The maximum speed of 09 engine is about 9000 rotations. (08 engine is about 8000 rotations, FN engine is 10300 rotations with the limiter.)
Many of parts for FN and S-GT are common for the cost reduction.
The valve and the piston use parts only for GT though the crankshaft is common.
Toyota improve the suction system, and have improved the engine performance during the season by ten horsepower or more.

Will Nissan adopt the 3.4L V8?
Will the air-restrictors be removed?

Tsuchiya engineering(Team Tsuchiya) are not active now as a racing team.

There is a rumor that Nissan will use a 3.4 liters engine in this season.
But they didn't develop a racing engine newly and it is supposed to be a production engine base.

Japan's relaxed agenda on Chasis development is more obvious here than ever before. Other than the head and tail lights, its a completely different machine compared to the Corolla but it sure as hell looks good.

The tail light of Corolla is a dummy, too.

For Sure. Sadly, I've been unable to ever watch a Super GT event. Damn shame, considering what I'm missing out on. I heard Honda got a special leave which allows them to build an unhomologated vehicle to compe in this year's Super GT. Its obviously similar to the NSX I heard.

My point is that the Super GT cars are fine for Marina Bay. They could race in another weekend, of course.

I was under the impression the engine rules were changed in the late 00's to take advantage of the then surplus IRL engines and with the addition of Formula Nippon using them (The Toyota and Honda powerplants) they must be cheaper than developing production based units.

Nissan/Infinity IRL engines were designed and built as 4 litre units by TWR which subsequently went bust so I think thats why Nissan are developing a new unit. Is it a production or race block? Zytek do a pretty rapid 3.4l race block?!?!
