Old Top Gear Presenters

Promoted by this post I was thinking back and a whatever happened to came into my head.

Whatever happened to Steve Berry? Not too long ago he didn't even have a wiki page! Apparently he is still around on the radio.

Anyway,
Ducati!

Anymore...

I'd forgotten about him!

As for 'Drivel' ... it was just that. All the road tests they did were dictated by commercial interests. And they wrecked more than one punter's car that I know of.

Steve Berry can stay on damn radio, he was truly awful and knew absolutely naff all about bikes.
Anyone who knew anything about bikes at hte time winced when they ehard him going on about stuff on Top Gear.
Then, when he was found out he tried to be all car friendly! Naff off mate!

Chris Goffey was good too.

Quentin "Smug *******" Wilson is doing well with his magazine writing (Classic Cars) and his car dealing.

On the Steve Berry front, you can regularly hear his voice on the Bennetts bike insurance sponsorship bits on the Men&Motors channel.

His production company made the "British Biker Build Off" show on the same channel.

He also got some bad press last year by being a bit too eager to offer his services to the Daily Mirror to replace Richard Hammond as motoring columnist .

I remember Steve Berry well, not that I cared for him much! He was just a very occasional (and usually brief) diversion from the main presenters.

Quentin Wilson, I liked him actually. Smug git, but quite funny. I got annoyed at how he described every car as "the dogs twitcher" though.

He hardly had anything to do in it. Guess it would be a little tricky to have him test an Ariel Atom or something.

I noticed that bbc.co.uk/topgear has changed and details all the shows of the 'new' topgear and has some interesting information on some of the shows. Cant believe its been going so long!

In the first two shows of the first series it doesn mention someone called Jason, any ideas?

And Sue Mott... there's far too little comparison of boot space in cubic feet and almost no mention of fuel economy at legal limits.

Far too much waffle about power, speed, fun, excitement, dream cars, stupid stunts that make me wee myself and so on.

What's wrong with replacing Top Gear with a more sensible programme, called, say, Middle Lane??

That's the sort of programming that I pay my licence fee for...

And they never tell you about where to get a cheap hazard warning triangle, or how great the diesel Montego is either.

Chris Goffey always struck me as a disappointed deputy headmaster whenever TG tried to do anything vaguely sporty or amusing in t'owd days.

Tony Mason was the best (indeed only) good thing about the old TG.

I think Steve Berry does the voiceovers for the Rustlers microwaveable burgers commercials.

I discovered a 1991 London Motorfair edition of TG a while ago on an old video tape. Goffey, Woolard, youngish Clarkson, Sue Baker and Tiff were all on the team back then.

I don't think Driven was rubbish at all, least it was way better than Top Gear when these two were shown, simply the show was getting a bit past it, therefore BBC had to send Clarkson to save it

Talking about the new format Top Gear, I think it is getting to the point I have to say its no better than Best MOTORing, Hot Version, Drift Tengoku and Video Option (thats if you are prepared to stump up some cash for dvds or download them from the net), even though thay are all very different to each other, and just thinking of that "Tiff Needell vs Keiichi Tsuchiya" thread, if I can find it

But anyway, of all Top Gear format, I would prefer watch the 80's version

Wheelbase (or at least their Grand Prix reports) are currently being aired regularly on ESPN. They often show the links, which are fantastically dated in a James Bond or Austin Powers sort of way. A show for the discerning gent who wears leather driving gloves, drives classic British sportscars and of course, has an eye for the ladies.
