Medical in the north east

Hi!

Trying to organize everything I need to start racing. Got my "Go Racing Pack" the other day so I'm currently studying that, but before I book my ARDS I need to Book a medical. Spoke to my Doctors Surgery and they want £120 for it but I've been told and have read that's its normally about £50? Is their any Doctors specialized in MSA medical that I could use?

Thanks,
Jake

There's one in Milton Keynes called Peachy Health. There are other threads on this forum about them and they come highly recommended.

There may be someone in the NE - again search the forum.

Searched the forum and didn't find anyone in the NE but phoned a few local circuits and found a doctor that can complete a MSA medical for £50, if anyone wants his number just PM me and i'll pass it on, just had mine done today and would recommend him to anyone wanting a medical for a competition license. A real nice bloke he is too.

I'm surprised that the MSA allows this shopping around for a compliant doctor to sign your licence application. The point of the examination is to detect conditions that are or may be "incompatible with motorsport". Quote, Blue Book H 10.1.9, and repeated in the "Licence Notes"
1 epilepsy
2 myocardial infarcts
3 ischaemia
4 coranary bypass grafting
5 coronary angioplasty
6 heart valve disease
7 uncontrolled hypertension
8 "mental or behavioural disorder"

An unscrupulous or foolish applicant could just not tell the doctor about 1, 3, 5 and 8, and the stranger doctor could know nothing about it nor discover them by their examination. That is why the Blue Book and the "Notes" say "a Medical Examination by their General Practitioner" who will know the medical history. Blue Book H 10.1. 1

I would say it's your risk, but on the race track., as on public roads, it isn't, and a sick driver can endanger others.
