The drivers are very proud of that photo and justifiably so: They are also trying to buy the car back off me and I think I may sell it to them.

Great photo david. Good call on the 240Z too (even if you're biased!). It's not a car that really springs to mind as a great rally car, but it was pretty special, and I believe is still a pretty effective historic rally tool as well.

I have been out and about on the Roger Albert Clark Rally this weekend, the event is mainly made up of classic rally cars, mainly Mk1 and Mk2 Escort and they are being driven by some of the tops names in the business Stig Blomqvist and Mark Higgins to name 2. But also on the event is a Lancia Stratos, in the hands of Steve Perez, what fantastic motor car.

On the basis of most successful, with it's almost continued use at some point in the past 35+ years etc.,

It just has to be the Ford Escort in Mk1 and Mk2 forms.

No mention of Tony Pond or Per Eklund in the mighty Triumph TR7 V8 in the patriotic white with blue and red or the red white and blue. Roger Clark in the union jack bonnetted Sparkrite sponsored car. I'm building a replica and used to have an SD1 rally car so not biased in any way.

My vote goes to the Delta S4. It was worth freezing half to death in Kielder forest to see & hear Markku Alen throwing it around on the 1986 RAC rally.

One more vote for the Audi Quattro from me. I was marshalling at a rally @ croft were the 'Star Car' was a SWB Audi Quattro driven by Steve Perez (If I can remember correctly!), I was on the other side of the pit wall when he came past me at full throttle! Ahh Bliss!!!

But a few more votes from me on the early Subaru Impreza's, Hearing the Flat Four beat roaring in the forests!!! (Just because I own a Scooby doesn't mean I'm biased, Honest Guv!!)
