His mistake was possibly going a bit too hot behind the Ferraris by misjudging the braking there (imo understandable on lap 1 among the pack), he became a little disorientated around the next sequence of corners, fell back into the arms of that aul fella Ricciardo. There's lot of talk of marbles from the F2 race which was noted before the start and that, with an combination of his disorientation, meant that he slid a little too much and gave his sweat gargling teammate a hefty swipe. That's my take on it anyway.
I don't think it's a "school boy" error, I think it's a racing error -- Max's fault, yes -- but an error I wouldn't have punished. |
