THAT PANOZ SOUND!
That's the best of all the Le Mans engines IMO. However, the Saleen has a nice sound too. And the No. 4 Corvette ... (not the NO. 3 as I am not a Ron Fellows fan.) |

For the first 12 hours:
Panoz Prototypes + Corvettes For the second 12 hours: Anything 'kin else. Some nice turbocharged Audi or summat. I'll have better headphones this year. Which means: A: I'll be able to take more of a break from the noise (as with so many things, one appreciates it more in moderation). and B: I'll be better able to hear Radio Le Mans, and therefore have more of a clue what the devil is going on. |

Best sounds - 917's
Second best -Matra's 72 -74 Worst sound -The works Mazda trio passing the main stands together (sounded like three circular saws - and burst several thousand eardrums!) |

I'll never forget the sound of the Jags on my first visit in '86. Peering over the fencing at Hunaudieres at midnight - sensational!
(And the Mazda's sounded prettry good too!). |

At LeMans 2001, most of the cars sounded pretty good, though the Chryslers made a noise that made me think "wouldn't you be quicker if that din was converted into forward motion!?". From the recent past though, nothing touches the Ferrari F40LMs/GTEs from the BPR series. Nothing. If you ever had to convince a non-beleiver of the musicality of racecar motors, this would be where to start.

I was about to ask about Racing for Holland. Of course they could have been Japanese guys with a grudge, I guess.
And were not the guys driving the DOME car last year Dutch? |

As a lover of American V8s,my vote would go to the Corvettes,Panoz and Saleens but for sheer noise and excitement the Speedy Courage would take some beating
cheers powermite |

Amen to that, Aysedasi, on the TS010-sounded beautiful. The Peugeots from the same races also sounded great.
Nowadays, anything with a Judd engine will work for me-Dome, Ascari, Chrysler, Lola, Ferrari (see Doran Racing). I remember the glory days of 94'-98' travelling down to Watkins Glen to see the true Ferrari 333sp's raced by the likes of Gianpiero Morretti... |

Ferrari 333SP had a great sound, but if you are looking for something that won't be forgotton for a while you have to look at the Panoz (except 2001).
