I always do an exercise to see what alternatives to taking car to NEC cost- this time against 40 quids worth of diesel, parking charge and 4hrs driving, cheapest rail fare was £101 return, involved around 7hrs travel plus 2 changes either way! Shame.

I would imagien there is a larger than usual historic element because that is where a lot of the money is in motorsport in the UK at the moment.

Most motorsport's and companies see little benefit from the extortionate fees charged by Hayshed for the show and prefer to advertise or go to other shows.

I know of a few publications, companies and championships that would love to be there but just dont see a return due to these high charges.

I hadn't been for a few years but was quite impressed with what I did see in the relatively short time I was there due to some pressing reports I needed to handle at home.

Took the train there and back, and had no problems but from where I live it only yook just over an hours including one change at Birmingham.

I was interested in some of the motors on the Coys stand, including a number of Alan Mann machines, like an F3L and GT40 along with a couple of more recent cars that Henry has been campaigning, the Mustang and Capri.

Wish i'd thought to look a few tenthers out!

Yes I noticed the Alan Mann cars, what with the article in Motor Sprot this month I wondered if he were cashing in his pension.

I wasn't needed to work after all yesterday sp spent the day mooching Round the show with the family. All in all plenty to see, thankfully much less of the MaxPower influence this year. The stands seemed to be busy and that can only bode well for the rest of us for 2012. I thought the show mich improved and a good start to the year.

Reading Octane, the historic scene is becoming high profile. The Historic awards dinner got quite good coverage and appeared to attract some importent motorsport people.

Were the alan Mann cars being auctioned or are they just there for display?

Yes I realise Alan is not in the best of health. Shame but hopefully the cars will go to a good home.

The F3L and GT40 would be mega bucks if they are in an auction!

The F3L was on a tilting display?

I don't imagine the family would sell XOO349F, which has to be one of, if not the most famous Escort still around. Last time I saw it still in original spec and worth several times that £30k. Was the Escort in auction a Mann car or otherwise?

See what you mean. Never use own transport to NEC train cheap enough at £9-20 return, prior booking online, don't mind standing, sardines? more like pate, 3 carriages where 9 would have been short of space!, no bus fare to pay,free.... (music to the ears!)

I didn't see any AMR Escort, just the 4 I've already mentioned. There was some blue and white Escort contraption though but couldn't get close enough to it to work out what it was!

Could've been buried beneath the F3L or something, so I've probably missed it unless of course it was withdrawn because someone's made an unrefusable offer or something!

That number brings back some fond memory's Mike. Back in 68 I had the pleasure of driving it around Essex lanes one evening. Our neighbour was the head chauffeur at Ford [Warley] I always thought that it USED to be a Mad House! However, our neighbour was always bringing various Boreham creations home, road miles before these cars were handed over,Mk2 Cortina 1600E V6,same treatment to a Corsair, both very very nice cars. One evening he turned up with the first ever V6 Capri, got to drive that as well! However,as for the Escort, what a fantastic time we had with that, incredible sound for that time, went looking for Lotus/GT Cortinas to play with! Saddly my neighbour,Sonny Clark, passed away about ten years ago,I was fortunate enough to have met up with him before his departure, after all those years had passed,he still remembered how far that thing would go and still be able to bring it back. Wonder if it is the very same car or did it suffer the usual Ford trick of number plate roulette?

It appears that the Eleanor Mustang from the film Gone in 60 Seconds fetched £85,000 .

I have a feeling that another mexico reached last years figure around the the time i was walking past the auction yesterday.
