SEAT's Yvan Muller and Chevrolet's Nicola Larini, who had qualified 11th and 12th behind defending triple WTCC champion Andy Priaulx, were both awared penalties - with Larino set to start from the back of the grid, while Muller's is a suspended penality, after being found to be running non-homologated racekit. Muller's balaclava was found not to be homologated, as were Larini's underwear and shoes.
The same fate befell Proteam Motorsport's Sergio Hernandez, who had qualified 13th and best of the Independents' Trophy contenders. This handed indie pole to Exagon Engineering's Pierre-Yves Corthals. How ridiculous is that?! Losing their qualifying times for having the wrong underwear!! Why couldn't they have just given them a fine? |

wow look at all the multiple posts. I guess the forum software is having a bad day.
They lost their qualifying times for having the wrong underwear and shoes. That's got to be one of the most stupid penalties I have ever heard of. Are they trying to kill of the WTCC with their dumb decisions all the time? |

"Mr.Larini? Could I have your underpants please?" |

Still not decided whether this is a joke yet - that was my first impression
I love a suspended penalty for a balaclava. Wonder if Wurz would be in trouble for his odd shoes. |

A while ago a driver in WRC was disqualified because his gloves were not homologated.

I recall a balaclava issue affecting Marcos Ambrose in the V8 Supercar Series a few years ago - he got disqualified for not wearing one.

Well, I must say grid drops due to wrong clothing seems a bit weird. It's not like they got an advantage that made the car go faster. I'm sure a hefty fine would get the message through without the need to penalize grid position.

So I actually find it good, that they got this penalty! If a footballer (or soccer player, how you want to call it) didn’t have the right shirt on, he would get a red card! |

Again more inconsistencty.
I think just a financial fine is enough without adding anything else but why a)give Larini and Muller 2,000 euros and give Hernandez 1,500 euros and b) demote Hernandez and Larini to the back but not to Muller and suspending it till the end of the season? Not that I am complaining. I support SEAT of course. But I support consistency and fairness from the Touring Car Bureau more. And I am afraid I just don't see why they came to the decision to slap 2000 fines on Larini and Muller 2,000 euros and Hernanzez 1,500, unless their a differing fine structure for works drivers and Independent drivers. I am afraid I certainly don't see why they suspend Mullers back-of-the-grid penalty but not Larini's and Hernandez's . |

Great win for Zanardi.
Great drives through the field from Jorg Muller and Nicola Larini. BMW looking very strong here, Chevy's good too. SEAT's are wandering around helplessly today sadly (I wonder why ) |

What a fantastic race that was, classic touringcar action. Now Touring Car Bureau, please keep your fingers off the compensations for the remainder of the season, apparently this works so please don't break it.
Nice results for Zanardi, must be a heads up after a so-so season start. |

The most insane WTCC race ever. Fantastic performance from Zanardi. Reminds me of the Zanardi from Champcar of old.
Probably the best WTCC race there's been - or maybe it's just me being a little overtired Certainly some penalties due for some driving there though. Indie BMW's watch out. |

The second race was brilliant (have not seen the first one yet), just what the WTCC needed . It was good for the championship because this race probably would have had the highest viewing fiquers, due to it following Le Mans. The best thing though was that all the cars were so close together, this is how the WTCC should be all the time...
Best WTCC race ever? I think so |

Forget "W"TCC...just hold all the races at Brno
That was the most fun I had watching a touring car race since...ever, possibly |

Definately the best WTCC race since Anderstorp last year. Just wish the coverage was better - why so few replays? Thompson's onboard must have picked up some amazing shots during the mid-field battle.

That was a bit physical but only one or two moves were a bit questionable in my eyes.
John Cleland is great in the commentary box, he comes away with some funny quotes! |

The second race was entertaining, probably for the wrong reasons, it was a bit of a crash fest, Thompson really has got a bullseye on that Honda.

Huff has been excluded from 3rd for a non-conforming front ARB link
Also, 10 place drops at Estoril for D'Aste & Engstler for their crash in race two and 1,000 Euro fines. Last edited by Hazard; 15 Jun 2008 at 19:35. |
