Audi R8R should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

I think this is a case of mis-understanding of an English way of saying things.

"out to get" is more likely that everyone is out to beat them, rather than trying to destroy them. "Gunning for us" is the same.

I'd hardly believe that anyone would want to purposely destroy someone. Least of all a factory team...

I've got to go with Tom on this one, those comments from "sources" are totally from left-field and I'd be interested to know who his "sources" are and where they got their information from.

The Lola was crash tested yesterday (and passed.) There are pictures of it, in the windtunnel, at Dailysportscar.

I heard that the boss of VW came over to the UK, the brits got him pi55ed and let slip that the R10 has been testing for the past 2 years, and its 2 secs a lap faster than the R8, no I dont know where it was tested

I'd think that Audi have been having a development R8 chassis with and R10 motor in it pounding around for the better part of a year, at least. The rumour of them going diesel has been out for at least that long, so if they were/are going to do it, they'd be clocking development up as much as possible.

I would also think that the cancellation of the Audi DTM press conference has also got something to do with whatever they're mainstream plans are for 06/07 and beyond.

which R8 .. the restricted R8 of 2005 .. ??? . well then 2 seconds is not that much . it was over 2 seconds slower than the Pesca cars IIRC .. but still probably still with better reliability

No, a standard V10 TDI out of a VW Touareg.

The Audi racing TDI is rumored to be a purpose built 5.5 V12 diesel engine.

Wonder if the quesion marks over the DTM program could open the door for an increased Audi presence in the ALMS.

Maybe two R10s from Sebring onwards?

Send Audi an e-mail...I'm sure that they would want to consult with you to get your extensive expertise before unveiling the new car...

Zytek will likely have a new LMP1 fro the 2006 LMS season.

As far as I know they've not even started construction yet!

We had a talk with one of the AUDI works drivers in 2003 (!) and at this point the AUDI LMP1 was constructed and they had some important problems like "the car must not only fast, it must look good and currently our engineers are working on the design"

I think tthat are problems most of the manufacturers want to have...

I guess there's no chance that the car will be anything less than perfectly reliable then.

Two years.... were the LMP1 and diesel rules set in stone back then?

From what I recall, LMP1 and LMP2 rules are from the 2004 rulebook which would ahve been out sometime in 2003. The grandfathering and hybridization has just put off the eventual switch to the new cars. When 2007 comes along, and there are no more P900/P675 hybrids around (except for maybe the ALMS ) things will begin to get a little clearer in the Prototype world. I just wonder how long we can stick with that package before the ACO decides to screw the pooch again. (oh, don't get me wrong, the changes have proven needed to keep the cars on the ground), I just wish that the transition had taken place a little more quickly. Some of the changes were so drastic, that it made it quite impracticle to update most cars to LMP1/2 specs, which means buy new cars, which means you can't do it overnight. I am very surprized that it has taken so long for the new cars to be built though.

' I am very surprized that it has taken so long for the new cars to be built though.'

But in the end its probably been for the best, teams have had time to make the correct decisions, and manufactuers have had the time to design a good car.

Hopefully there'll be no repeats of uncompetitive customers cars as we saw with the early Lola, Reynard and Riley LMP900s.
