Newby out of his depth, please help
Hi there chaps and chapesses,
as per the title really, i have just brought a FF secondhand for a bit of trackday fun after getting bored of my race prepped MX5 and i would like to learn a bit more about it. i understand it is a 98 or 99 Van Diemen chassis, (number 26 and red if anyone knows the car) anyway, i am curious to know a bit few more specs about the car if poss and a good baseline chassis setup if at all possible. the engine is an old ford lump powered by LPG which is interesting. What power do they push out in FF spec? if anyone has any links, info or contacts they want to share, i am your man thanks in advance Greg |

John Lobell is the oracle for all things Van Diemen. 01606 881727 www.medinasport.co.uk
He is the UK parts distributor for Kent engined cars (like yours). It should be putting out about 105 bhp with a minimunm weight of 420Kg. Interesting about you saying you want to do track days with it, are you sure? All the track day companies I know wont alow open wheelers out with the tin boxes. Robin. The RF 98 and 99 are quite different. The 99 onwards have roll over bars which are bolted to the chassis, the 98 is welded. The 98 has an aluminium crash box which is seperate to the body work and the 99 onwards have an integral nose box crash structure.
In the UK they were available in two engine configurations, 1800cc zetec engines and 1600cc Kent engines. ( and you will not be allowed to use it on track days, this is due to insurance limitations on the organizers) |

thanks for the replies lads,
i am aware that most track days don't cater for Single Seaters, the plan is to go to test days, airfields, hillclimbs and anything else where we are allowed, i am also considering getting the car SVA'd as a special, lights, mudguards, indicators etc. I will see what is entailed, it may be an option. i spoke to the chap at javelin and he said that he wouldn't have a problem if the car was SVA'd. Thanks for the tip on aintree, is there anywhere else i could go to that you lot are aware. Greg |
