Monopods

Anybody regularly use a monopod at the track? I'm thinking about getting one; after all I use a tripod for other work.
Any comments?

I used to use mine regularly at the track, but then got lazy and it now seems to live permanently in the boot of the car. I don't think I've even tried out the 500mm with the monopod.

anything above a 300mm you'll need one. 300 and below you should get away with. also good to extend when you're on a cross circuit hike!

I've been using a 400 without one, (mind you its not a monster f2.8 job.) fairly successfully; just starting to notice that my shots at the end of the afternoon aren't as good as early on.

yes i meant anything above a 300 f2.8. - a 400 2.8 would be way to heavy for my weak wrists!

biggest piece of glass i ever used...a nikon 300 f2 - the front glass was as big as a dinner plate!
