V-Twins, are they too far ahead?

Is the gulf between the V-Twins (Ducati, Honda, Aprillia) and the 4-Cylinders (Yamaha, Kawasaki,Suzuki) too great. When was the last time a 4-cylinder bike beat the twins? A few years ago they were pretty close, but now the v-twins just dominate.

who are the big names racing 4 in wsb? in the ama superbike the yoshi suzukis and goberts r7 seem to be on the pace of nicky and his rc51. but then again, the ama doesnt have a factory ducati team thats as good as the wsb right now.

hopefully chandler will good some more good results durnig the rest of the season.

The V-twins are absolutely dominant, although this isn't all on the basis that they are so far ahead.

Kawasaki hasn't had any decent developments on their bike in years. It's basicaly the same one I saw when I first watched the WSB in 1995.

Suzuki are much the same as Kawasaki.

Yamaha were up there and mixing it with the Hondas and Ducatis, but now they've pulled out.....

But the V-Twins have proven to be the dominant engine format.

Or the dominant weight format.

But for all my Formula Ducati claims the RC51 ain't the ride is it!

I don't actually think the gap is as big as it is made out. In 1999 and also in 2000 the gap wasn't very much, Slight, Edwards, Haga, Chili & Yanagawa all won races in those years, sure they might have had to ride harder, but they were still competitive, plus at Hockenheim in 2000 the front 5 were Chili, Haga and Yanagawa on fours vs Bayliss and Edwards at the front, and it was pretty. Plus at Assen last year Yanagawa and Chili were quite close at the start to Bayliss.

I think that the V Twin manufacturers are just tipping more money into development, while Kawasaki's bike is too old and Suzuki just aren't interested enough.

The Yamaha was exactly the same when Haga was racing it in 2000. The things he done on that machine was incredible.
