Challenge - The Great British Street Circuit

The idea of this challenge is to make a Street Circuit in your home town/city, theere will be quarter final,semi final threads and a final thread to see which city comes out on top! The circuits must be no more than 4 miles in legnth. If you have trouble working out legnth this website is handy. Happy Drawing, and remember, you are doing this for your city!

The reason I am doing this as British is bcause the UK has no street circuits, other members from places that arent part of the UK can take part as well, they can pick a british city/town.

That's a great track, Nicky. I really like it. You could have the pits at Ballater Street, I guess. And plenty of room for temporary grandstands along The Green in the park.

One problem, though, assuming that it's clockwise, that corner on Kings Drive, just before the bridge, is way too fast. However, there could be room for a chicane-like corner just before it.

Alot of this is fairly narrow and the whole circuit is only 1.5 miles, so is probably unsuitable for anything more than karts. Circuit is anti clockwise, starting along Potteries Way at the southernmost point before the Turn 1 roundabout (its a dual carriageway, so the pits can be on the other side of the road).

What isn't clear from the overhead is the elevation changes, which are quite extreme - there's only really the s/f straight, the Old Hall Street - Stafford Street section and the short stretch along Marsh Street South which are relatively flat. The elevation marker gives some idea but doesn't really do it justice.

It's more down to the fact that when we do have them they require an act of parliament before they can be used. This is one reason why the Birmingham Superprix wasn't brought back-it would take too long to get it through parliament again. It's just too much hasssle for organisers.

Peterborough has few roads that would make a good circuit but if I had my way then this would be the circuit.

It is a mile & a half over the limit & would be completly impossible to do but it would be as much, if not more, of a spectacle as Monaco. If you don't know where it is then it's London-Buckingham Palace just above the north-western hairpin, Big Ben just next to where the track crosses over the Thames for the first time. I'll try to come up with one within the rules later!

Well here's my Peterborough effort. The first is the one I really wouldn't mind seeing, though the track would need to be widened coz it is narrow in places. However, it is too long (4.4 miles) so I have also created no.2. This is a shorter, faster circuit though it is still quite long-3.6 miles. Assuming that the start/finish straight is the longest, the best corner would be the 3rd-the sweeping right hander with a small amount of banking. Would be good to see the cars going through there.

I got fed up with faffing around on pedometer, I always seemed to manage to screw it up and get a point bloody miles away from where I wanted it and have to start again.

So I've gone back to good old fashioned Google Earth instead (which at the end of the day is more flexible and probably more accurate anyway).

Also, I bent the rules a little - I chose to do Birmingham where I'm at university, not London where I live.

The track runs clockwise. As yet I've not thought of the best place to put the startline. I should also mention that the underlying map is half a decade out of date. The large building site is now a huge shopping centre, and the large elevated road junction under one of the corners no longer exists, it's just a straight forward junction now.

The track is 3.30 miles long.

I've somewhat adopted Sunderland as my British city of choice--I have a distant uncle, etc. on my mother's side living there. So I cobbled together just under 1.67mi on some of the main roads and around the Stadium of Light. I think the course is going over some curbing, and 1.67 is a bit short for my tastes, but elsewise it's not too bad... may try and work on another location within that locale later.

The Bathgate circuit runs clockwise and has a lot of elevation change. It’s the town I lived in for the first few years of my life, and I now live just a few miles away from there.

Starting where Edinburgh Road becomes King Street, the road is level until after it passes the Whitburn road Junction, at point it begins to go down hill along South Bridge Street. The Road levels off at the roundabout, and continues fairly level along Glasgow Road. The hairpin and run down Muir Road are level until the mile marker at which point it drops downhill again into the off camber turn onto Burnside Road. This is the lowest point on the circuit. The circuit gently climbs up Burnside Road levelling briefly on Mill Road before climbing spectacularly up Waverly Street to the highest point on the circuit at the roundabout on Torphicen Street. This road is level at that elevation, however the short section on Drumcross Street is sharply downhill before turning onto level terrain at Marjoribanks Street. The Circuit begins to drop downhill as it passes the Balbardie Road junction, with the gradient increasing as it continues onto Kirk Road. The hairpin sees the circuit level off at the roundabout, before heading back towards the Start along an undulating Edinburgh Road.

Whilst it isn't really in my home town I'll take the Bristol track if i may! I think that the combination of street corners & roundabouts, long straights & that really fast flowing section along the back of the circuit would just be spectacular to see. There is more than enough room for a good pit & paddock area & a grandstand on the inside of the corner in the top left of the circuit would give great views of both the cars & down the river to the Clifton Suspension Bridge making for one of the most increadible views in racing. On top of all of this Bristol is a great city!

Have I made this sound good enough yet!?! I am seriously convinced though that this would be a completly unique & exciting track, both for spectators & for the drivers + with those views all motorsport photographers would love you for choosing it! Choose it! PLEASE!!!!
