Who's going for Singapore GP?

I know there's a few volunteers going on the marshal forum, but any fans from here heading to Singapore in September?

see you there,

It was over a week ago now, but I'm still reminiscing about it all the time. It was a mind-blowing experience, completely surreal during the racing, and especially the F1. It was my first F1 experience, street-race experience and night-race experience, and it will be very hard to beat it. I was posted at the end of the DRS zone so was able to wander down to just before the braking point, just the other side of the fence to the cars, and the sound and sight was magnificent. You'll never get that close to those cars at that speed!

The atmosphere amongst all the other marshals too was really special. My thanks to Martin (who flew out too) for making it really awesome, and all the guys on my sector. Definitely one I'd recommend!

Now I've started an intern job for 4 weeks before I fly home. Great country

I left with a bit of mixed feelings about this one.

For me, last year was certainly much better. The trip to Southeast Asia however was a much needed getaway so I had a hell of a time re-visiting parts of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand that I fell in love with last year

Shall be back next year if they take me.

Severely tempted by this , it coincides with my 30th birthday. A couple of questions for those who went. When do you have to sign on and get your passes etc, and do you get given overalls there ? Thanks

The packet collection hours are the weekend before the race. Two days only if I remember correctly and very specific hours. This year I had my post chief collect my stuff on my behalf because I was in Thailand that weekend celebrating my 30th birthday

You do get 3 pairs of overalls, which you use on 4 occasions.

if you arrive on Sunday you can collect your packet, but then would have to keep yourself busy until Thursday when you're actually needed at the track.

I recommend visiting Malaysia or Indonesia for a few days if you haven't been

its very cheap, and much cheaper than staying in Singapore during that time

You'd want to spend a couple of days there to see the sights and get aclimatised anyway. Sort of Disney does the world with faulty air-conditioning! Breakfast at Raffles and a Singapore Sling in the courtyard are remarkably good value, although maybe not GP week-end.

I went to the Malaysian GP in 2010 , and spent 4 days in Singapore, so want to spend as little time as possible there. It's a nice city, but I've done most of the sights allready. I had a drink in Raffles, cost me about £12 for a pint !

They did have the collection day on Monday and Tuesday as well this year, so you could in theory arrive Tuesday if and leave next Monday. But then the other option is just to get your post chief to collect for you, which is fine.
