It's been a while since I was out there (getting on for 20 years!), but both Shah Alam (KL) and Pasir Gudang (Johor) circuits were pretty tatty then and I can't imagine that either has received any investment since.
If the country could sustain two quality circuits at each end with Sepang at KL and the new one at Johor, I'm not so sure. Alternating the Grand Prix may help, but then the new Johor circuit would only be literally just over the water from Singapore... Maybe it's just a pipe-dream and speculation? (Does anyone know if Simon Gillette's name has been mentioned?) |

FIA Grade 2 is NOT F1-spec. So, at least initially, the track won't be a candidate for a Grand Prix.
Johor is NOT up to snuff for F1, and would certainly be considered too short also; you'd pretty much have to take it down an rebuild it from scrach, not to mention acquire some more land to extend the circuit. Shah Alam appears to be gone. |

Yes, this project is initiated by the Singaporean billionaire, and apparently a direct response to move on from the failed Changi Motorsport hub project.
The Shah Alam circuit is long gone; in its place is a rather posh residential area. The Johor circuit is still around and as commented by some, is in tatters. Some enthusiasts are trying to revive it, it has always been a cracking circuit, old world style. If done right - and if it actually materialises, of course, this new circuit should be good for racing. Maybe SV8? Maybe even ILMS... hey if the prototypes can run (or rather scheduled to) in Sentul, Indonesia, a better equipped and built race track surely can too.
