A potential split raises a lot of questions. The Team Austria cars have improved so much over the last two years: how much of that is down to Stohl or other parties? Will the Team Austria cars be as strong without Stohl? Can Stohl produce cars as good as the Team Austria cars?

Expected Scheider at All-Inkl.
I assume MJP stands for Max J. Pucher.

Stohl (STARD) will supply cars to the US based electric rallycross series so don't expect him in WRX or ERX.

I don't understand why they changed name, I mean they are still an Austrian team.

Does Stohl have the rights for WRX Austria or what?

Interesting, but rather unprofessional behaviour of MJP Racing Team Austria on Facebook:

Quote:
We were as bummed as you when we found out that Janis and Timur wanted cheaper rather than faster ... Kevin is not leaving OMSE but they are just focused on GRC with Honda.
I´m not sure if they should write this in public .

At the same time there are people who say that Janis and Timur will drive Fiestas in World RX next year as GirtsRX has already written above. Of course nothing official, but maybe true...???

Great news: Prodrive joins World RX with Chicherit and a Renault Mégane in 2018! But hopefully they can get a better second driver... https://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/128029/prodrive-launches-renault-rx-programme

Great news to have Prodrive involved with rallycross again, I have high hopes they can produce a decent car. Chicherit as the lead driver though? That's not encouraging, hopefully they can find someone with a bit more experience for the second car.

The render looks pretty good...

...look forward to seeing the car make it's debut in France this year!

(Full story is now up on the official World RX site as well)

Prodrive have never really been full involved in rallycross, only very loosely with Eklund's early Subaru cars. I think they merely supplied the Doran Mini and perhaps did some tuning work to get more power out of the engine off the WRC restrictor, JRM took over pretty quickly and Prodrive had very little to do with it,

Slightly odd that they choose Renault, presumably Chicherit has links with them and secured backing, must be huge backing as that is a huge project if they are building the engines and stuff aswell

I thought Prodrive did quite a bit of tweaking with it? (The usual relocation of radiators etc.). They (Prodrive) were responsible for the car when it went to X-Games in 2013, weren't they? And later when it competed in the GRC?

JRM took over in 2015 I remember rightly, which is when we saw the car in the World Championship. They seemed to take a massive step back with the car when it went 2.0L, I wonder what the plans are for JRM in 2017.

Didn't they just rebuild the WRC cars for rallycross a while after BMW pulled the plug on the WRC team?

Prodrive were to sell rallycross Minis to customers but no one bought one if I remeber correctly. They were looking at rallycross instead after the short WRC stint.

Plenty of Mini WRC have been sold, there are quite a few around in R5 spec and in WRC spec too.

Prodrive built all of them I expect, though that job may now have been offered to someone else, once BMW pulled the budget Prodirve dropped it, but are likely to offer spares, servicing as most WRC manufacturers do for their product line.

I would guess Prodrive did some work on the initial Min yes as it was still 1.6 litre and Doran won in Berlin with it I think. But when WRX came out he either bought the car or it went away and he went to DS3's. It only came back as it was being run by JRM, who by the way have got more than enough going on with Nissan GTR's to bother about a pointless effort in WRX, I think they only did it as Doran bought his Monster millions and needed a team after his own went foul and Solberg didn't want him around.

Spoke to Marcus at the weekend and Niclas will be running WRX this year in Fiesta. Not from OMSE and now we know why he posted a picture at M-Sport.

I didn't ask who was running the car for him but Marcus seem very positive about the change.

One more to the list.

This site seems to confirm the rumours of Stohl Racing Team's participation in the 2017 WRX.

“At the Stohl Racing team, Günther Aschacher confirmed the comeback plans of the busy racing team”
Aschacher told motorline.cc: "Yes, it's true, we are returning to the Rallycross World Cup."
http://www.motorline.cc/motorsport/n...ck-209219.html

Robin Larsson has a fund-raising on his Facebook page. It says that he is negotiating with another team. Notification of Robin's future in the middle of next week! Which team could it be?

More details emerge on the plans of Guerlain Chicherit:

http://www.motorsport.com/world-rx/n...rounds-873944/

He'll use a Clio prior to the completion of the Prodrive Megane. Interestingly the article mentions that Prodrive are building three cars: I wonder where the other two are going?

In the article it says there is supposed to be one driver alongside Chicherit in WRX. Could the third car be a test or reserve car? Or maybe be used by guest drivers?

I guess it´s a test car. Hoonigan has also three cars with one of them being used for testing.

I would guess the same also. My thought though was that it feels somewhat unusual announcing to build three cars with only two drivers and not saying what the third car is for.

Peugeot, VW, MJP Racing, Audi and probably a few other teams as well got testing cars nowadays.

The third Megane is for Customer drivers.

Google translation from Robin Larsson's Facebook

“We succeeded together with you private & our amazing sponsors, new and old, to get the necessary economical for a place in the factory team during the winter we had contact with. It's been tough to get it all together and on Monday we were unfortunately told that the place was not ours. This time it was someone else who got the chance. A heavy answers and while we waited for the decision, several other chances disappeared. We have since rethinked and decided to start afresh with our own team, Larsson Jernberg Motorsport, another season. We will focus on the European Championships next year, when it is too difficult for us as a private team to compete in the World Cup.”
