2017 Pirelli World Challenge Round 3: Long Beach

Pirelli World Challenge's GT and GTA teams hit the streets of Long Beach next week, with 23 cars on the initial entry.

Patrick Long heads into Round 3 with a slim two-point lead over defending series champion and last year's winner at Long Beach, Alvaro Parente.
Johnny O'Connell is only two points further back and will be hungry for the top step of the podium after losing out to a technical infraction last year.

After his stellar run at St. Pete, Alec Udell has been reclassified as a GT driver.

No really big surprises on the entry, other than the continued absence of Always Evolving's Nissan GT-R.

A bit disappointing that James Davison is not on the entry list, after such a great run at St. Pete. Twenty three cars is a good number of entries for Long Beach though. Hopefully we'll get a good clean race.

Good move. This will really open up the GT-A class. It's tough to choose between the remaining GT-A contenders.

I don't think you'll need streaming links this weekend

Any guesses as to whether Dime Racing will A) Show up at all, B) Have a Mercedes AMG GT3 that they said was coming last year and C) Have Jonathan Summerton or Frankie Montecalvo (yes I'm aware that he is also driving in the GTS class this year) driving for them this year?

Summerton is listed in the car, but the car is no longer listed on the entry list, so we'll see what they come with. I'll see what I can find out.

Yes the latest entry list does list Jonathan Summerton, and the car is a Lamborghini Huracan GT3, which, if it appears, would be the debut of this model in the series! But you are apparently seeing another entry list where the entry has disappeared! Doesn't surprise me!

I guess not. Doesn't sound like they'll be streaming RA, Mid-O or Sonoma either.

I took a pic of the car today, and it's still in it's carbon-finish as delivered. They only received the car on Monday! I don't know how to post the pic however. I can forward it to anyone who wants to post it!

Ryan Dalziel and CRP Racing led Practice 1 with a 1:18.994. Good to see some speed from their Mercedes after the rough races at St. Pete.

Long, Parente, Sellers and O'Connell were 2-5.

The Dime racing car does indeed exist

The team were frantically putting it together this morning while all the other PWC teams were off to breakfast or still sleeping.

Alvaro Parente bettered his own lap record from last year to take pole. Pat Long, Bryan Sellers, Daniel Mancinelli, Alex Riberas, Ryan Dalziel, Pierre Kaffer, Alec Udell, Michael Cooper and Peter Kox fill out the rest of the top 10.
Sounds like there may have been some driving antics during the session.

Also, Adderly Fong's Bentley will not take part in the race due to suspension damage from Practice 2.

It was quite a race to follow on Twitter. There was a sizable period of FCY/red flag for a river of water on track, caused apparently by someone outside the circuit clobbering a fire hydrant. PWC actually recovered from it pretty well, they added 15 minutes to the race duration and wound up with 48 minutes of race time.

Parente and Long are both starting the season really strong. Solid runs from Sellers, Mancinelli, Riberas and Dalziel too.

Tough race for the Cadillac guys.
