Alex E should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Mazda RX7

I have a Mazda RX7 here that was built in Australia by Go Gear Racing which I think was Dick Ward. It needs to find a new home but I am wondering where it would be eligible to race ?
It is basically built using a steel spaceframe but retains the original steel centre body section, roof & bulkheads. With glassfibre front & rear body sections.
Would it be eligible for special saloons ? I understand it was built in the late eighties.

It was built too late to have been an Australian Group C racer then?

Not sure where you are Alex, but Neil is right, there has been an RX7 in the UK CSCC Special Saloons and Modsports series. I think the series is for pre 1993 or 94 cars as that is when the Thundersaloons series (cars from which are also eligible) came to an end.

It's probably worth contacting the CSCC office with some details of the car.

The Go Gear cars were built for the Australian Sports Sedan series.
The way you have described the car as having the original steel roof
and pillars confirms this.

The original motor would have been a 13B PP or 20B PP.

Thanks for your helpful responses.
I an told the car has a 13B peripheral port engine, Hewland FGB 5 speed box. And weighs 600 kgs.
This car was used in Asia apparently, one of eleven built for a kind of one make series. I am told this car holds the lap record at Johor circuit ?? So although it originated in Australia it seems it never raced there. It is a very nicely built car with a lot of good stuff on it.
The space frame is actually aluminium, not steel as I thought.

I have chassis #9 ( race number 15 in the picture ). The car Alex has / had is chassis #11 ( race number 20 in the picture ). #11 was eventually sold to another chap in the UK, who I've been in contact with about it. These 2 cars were the David Wong / Team Petronas Primax cars in Malaysia around 1997-2001.

Mazda..

Ok that makes sense as I bought the car from David Wong. Anyway seems like it went to a good home and will get some use. Alex.
