Le Jog Rally 2014 (HERO event)
Quick note for anyone who may be interested in this year's Le Jog event starting this coming Saturday and running through to Tuesday. To give it the full description - the Land’s End to John O’Groats Classic Reliability Trial & Tour.
The spectator information is: http://www.heroevents.eu/Events/LeJo..._2014/specinf/ Decent entry list: http://www.heroevents.eu/Events/LeJo..._2014/entries/ Passing through God's Country (areas other than Yorkshire are available) so I will hopefully get to see some of it. |

Obviously not what it was.
Where are all top rally crews and many Pre War cars? It's to cold for me . Suppose Flying Scotsman has overtaken it from a pre war perspective. |

Used to be a 'proper'test of car and driver.Start driving 8 am Saturday morning-few short breaks til Sunday evening, just how ralling used to be. Excellent event-then.

When I did it, a few years ago, admittedly, it still felt pretty tough - the "night halt" on Saturday night was about 4 hours, although the Sunday felt quite easy - less than a 12 hour day. The Monday into Tuesday was effectively about 26 hours, and you were pretty knackered by the time you got to JoG.....
This year's route looks pretty similar. I agree about the lack of pre-war cars though - when I did it there were plenty of Bentleys, Alvis and Riley representatives. |

A mixture of sunshine, cloud, ice and occasional sleet & snow showers greeted the entrants as they drove through North Yorkshire yesterday. I managed to take a 'few' photos most of them in the Yorkshire Dales so will upload a few batches for anyone interested.
This first batch was as they descended towards the village of Arncliffe at midday. |

Some more, again just on the approach to Arncliffe.

Few more, first two near Arncliffe again.
Next three near Catterick Garrison (Army tank training area) just as they entered one of the tests. Last one over the bridge is in Arkengarthdale - quite high at this point as they approached the Tan Hill Inn (highest pub in Great Britain). Quite bleak up there and the light was just starting to fail. |

Last few - all in Arkengarthdale. After that I called it a day and went to get thawed out!

Lovely atmospheric shots there Gary. Walked to, and had a nice couple of pints in, the Tan Hill last year but that was in summer, must be pretty bleak now.

Great shots Gary, thanks for posting them.Spent lots of time in those areas of the Dales, perfect rally roads.Favorite being the Buttertubs above Hawes-remembered for the absolute blast on my first Le Jog in 2004.Proved quite handy having driven the road many times previously!

Thanks both.
It's certainly very atmospheric up near Tan Hill especially in the wintery light but shortly after that last photo it started to snow. Even though I was in a 4x4 I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and left for home just in case the weather closed in. Felt a bit 'chicken' though as I passed the last few competitors still making their way up there. Think it was just mainly showers though (the weather, not the drivers ). |

I remember hoping for snow just to see how good my tyres were, cant rember exactly but I think they were Maxsport M&S.
Ron Gammons would not believe they were quicker than his Bridgestones .I had Dunlop stickers on the car from racing on them. Ron had to go and look for himself. Anyhow, we got snow-Wednesday morning on the way home from JoG! Tyres were great in slush! |
